RedPat
After getting no appropriate response from Bittrex either via formal service request, Twitter, or registered mail on how to get the XRP I bought from Bittrex off their site, I joined this chat group. Afterall, I do believe in XRP or would not have bought it! I was told by a nice XRP Chat person to go get a small amount of XRP from another exchange to "activate" my Bittrex XRP wallet then I could withdraw it. GateHub appeared to be the best of those listed. After looking at a "how to" video on Gatehub, however, it says I need to get 20 XRP from a "friend" to get started there! Is this the case? If so, the entire matter is a "Catch 22" situation! Though I am a business person, I am a bit older, so have no friends who even know what Ripple is! Please respond and enlighten me! I do not want to set myself up for another failure or more waste of time. Thanks, Red Pat

RedPat
MemberBerry: I have a Nano S receive address. That is where I need the activation. Don't know what you mean about a tag...
jk1989
The nano does not have a destination tag. Exchange adresses do. It's basically to link your xrp to your exchange account. You should be able to withdraw your xrp from Bittrex to the nano wallet adress.
RedPat
Bittrex won't release it. It shows in my Bittrex account, in some column, but with zero amount in the "withdrawal balance." I may need 20 XRPs in the Ripple Nano S first to activate it, jk1989. That's the problem: where to get them to start with!
Xilobyte
You buy them on any exchange and simplt send them to the nano wallet address. The 20 xrp for the Biteex wallet will stay there though as you have no choice. You can exchange Eth or any other coin for XRP on sites like Changelly or what ever. we do not however hift 20 xrp as it is not needed. You buy 40 and send them to a non activated walket, that will activate the wallet.

That's the problem: where to get them to start with! Hello again, I know this problem. 1. Open gatehub account. Send 50 xrp frombittrex to your ' mywallet' on gatehub the destination tag is 0 (you MUST insert this in ID tag option for receiving wallet) this will activate your gatehub xrp wallet. (you will need to leave minimum of 20xrp in gatehub) 2. Send 29 xrp (allowing for micro fees) from gatehub to your nano (destination tag 0) account should now be activated. You will now need to leave a minimum of 20xrp in your nano. 3. Send 5 xrp from nano to your bittrex xrp wallet(to test withdraw on nano) you MUST use the ID tag provided by bittrex for receiving wallet) 4. Check deposit received in bittrex 5 start withdrawing test amount from bittrex direct to nano nano ID tag 0 6. If all received/sent okay....you can continue with transfers. You may withdraw your full balance from bittrex wallet as the 20xrp minimum doesn't apply there (because it's not an individual wallet) hence the ID tag number which identifies your portion of what is held at bittrex. One thing to always remember is you must use the bittrex provided Id tag number when transferring xrp IN to your bittrex xrp wallet. RedPat
Ok, Khaleesi. Looks like you are saying I can start sending XRP from Bittrex to an empty Gatehub wallet, which is what it will be...as long as the tag in Gatehub is set to 0. Hope I am interpreting you correctly. It appears this "activation" process is a function of XRP, rather than any exchange or hard or soft wallet. It is taking so long that I am just hoping my XRP wouldn't disappear from Bittrex by the time Coinbase starts selling XRP! I do think the price will rise a lot once it is easier to buy and transfer XRP from exchanges!

Yes, bittrex sending address uses their provided ID tag and gatehub receiving address doesn't have one, hence type in 0 for receiving wallet. Yes, all "individual' xrp wallets require 20xrp min balance which is an anti spamming measure by Ripple Bittrex is a 'kind of' group wallet hence individual ID tag, individual wallets like gatehub, ledger nano don't require one hence 0 yes, best to secure in nano asap... but bittrex is safe enough for now especially if you have 2FA activated Edited September 11, 2017 by Khaleesi
CryptoLearner
The wonderful thing is that if and when XRP moons, Gatehub will have a lot of explaining to do as to why they kept the 30xrp (its 30 on my gatehub account) from all its users. I've heard people say that Gatehub gives you the initial xrp and that it belongs to them, but that wasn't the case with me -- I had a friend send me 30 to get me started so those tokens are mine. I'm sure others on here have had the same issue on Gatehub after transferring over to a Nano. Even at its current price, they're basically taking $5-$6 from everyone. Khaleesi
I was able to self fund gatehub from bittrex transfer but still had to leave 20xrp minimum behind in gatehub. in the future Ripple may reduce the minimum amount required as the value of xrp increases. It used to be higher. CryptoLearner

Bittrex in particular does not allow xrp transfer at all to ledger nano or blue unless the ledger xrp wallet has been activated with 20xrp. This means you have no choice but to send the 20xrp from another source (gatehub or a friend) for example. 'After' ledger xrp wallet is activated the transfer from bittrex direct to ledger xrp wallet is possible. Also, you must have a destination tag ID to transfer xrp from Bittrex even if the receiving xrp wallet doesn't have one, hence type in 0 Edited September 11, 2017 by Khaleesi Improved

RedPat
Ok. I can open a GateHub account, and then buy some XRP. Hopefully they will receive it into "my wallet" there, even though the wallet will start out empty. Then I will try and send it to my Nano S Ripple wallet to activate it. If all goes well, I will send the XRP from Bittrex to my Nano Ripple wallet. Thank you everyone for your help! Hopefully it will all work out, and soon I can chat intelligently about XRP with the group!
