Easiest and cheapest way to activate wallet in UK

Hi,

I've been verified on Gatehub for a few weeks now and I'm totally new to cryptocurrency.

I looked into activating via Bithomp but the only methods are via bitcoin (I have none) or $19 via Perfect Money. Perfect Money will only accept wire transfer and the minimum amount is $300 plus £10 charge from my bank for a wire transfer.

Gatehub won't let me deposit until the wallet is activated so that's out the question too.

I'm not confident enough with the systems to buy bitcoin then convert to xrp, I wouldn't even know where to begin to do that and reading the guides makes it seem even more difficult with several different exchanges and companies involved all taking a chunk of the cash.

I'm in the UK so I'm looking for the cheapest and easiest way to get the 50xrp required to activate the wallet so I can then get more via gatehub.

I know member to member activation is banned so I've not included my ripple address as I don't want banned with my first post.

Thanks for any help anyone can give

Cheers

Breezo

Hello and welcome @breezo. Thanks for the looking of the forum rules in advance :P with that kind of attitude you will do well here.

Last I knew Gatehub was doing account funding, but slowly. Bithomp has an activation service. FYI any XRP sent to a wallet will activate it, even if it is more than the activation min amount, if you buy 500 XRP that will also activate the account.

Perhaps Litebit.eu is an option for you (https://www.litebit.eu/en).

You will have to get verified, but the lowest verification level, which is called 'unverified' already allows you to spend a value of 75 Euro. This should be enough to buy the amount of XRP needed to activate a wallet (inform yourself about the destination tag your wallet provider may require). But as you are in the UK, wiring in the money will take some time. I am based in the same country as where litebit is registered, making it possible to buy XRP on the spot via iDEAL, albeit at a small premium. To be fair, I do not know how much it would set you back when buying from within the UK.

By the way, I though the minimum for wallet activation was only 20 XRP?

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I'd heard elsewhere that Gatehub had stopped activating wallets. Who knows? I'd looked into activation via Bithomp but their partner site Perfect Money want a minimum deposit of $300 so I'll give that a miss.

See if I buy XRP from an exchange will it be held in the exchange website or will I get the option to input my gatehub wallet address and it'll be sent there?

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

I'll check that site out thanks very much.

Yeah says 20 to activate but 50 is optimum amount for trust lines or something.

Bitstamp verification is generally less than a day.  They have a nice easy Instant Buy option that makes buying XRP easy.  Don't worry about wallet.. They manage it for you.  I don't know how long it would take to deposit funds from UK.  Once it's there buy XRP. then withdraw it into your Gatehub wallet.   Send 30 XRP first to both fund and test that you are doing it right.

Exact same thing for any exchange you find in UK....  but maybe quicker to get funds into.    It's not as hard as you are assuming.

So, I don't understand something.  If you're verified with Gatehub and in Europe, can't you simply make a SEPA deposit (it's free) and use that to buy the XRP necessary to create a ripple wallet?  Does gatehub really make you find 50 XRP somewhere else before you can do anything on their system, such as make an initial fiat deposit?

From the Gatehub blog:

DEPOSITS AND WITHDRAWALS

Wallets - My profile is verified and secure, how do I deposit funds and start trading at GateHub?

Each profile comes with a default funded ripple wallet. When you deposit funds from your bank account, the ripple wallet is the wallet they arrive to. You may also withdraw funds from the ripple wallet to your bank account or any other withdraw methods.

Note if you ripple wallet is not automatically funded after successful sign up, please contact us at support@gatehub.net and we will fund it for you.

Be aware however that Gatehub XRP are dearer than Bitstamp XRP by 4-5 %.    Also their volumes are small so a trade might take a while to fill while the price gets worse for you.

Hi,

That is exactly what is happening. I am verified and have connected, approved gateways but if I select "deposit" then "eu bank" (or any other funding option) I get the message that the ripple wallet is not activated (see attached).

https://cryptomate.co.uk/ might be work a look

Hi,

Thanks for that. I managed to buy some from Cryptomate. Took a while to find a vendor but once found the deal went really smoothly.

As they are based in UK I could do an instant bank transfer with no fees.

Wallet is now active so thanks to all who contributed to this thread and offered advice.

Cheers
