crytotard
Hi everybody! Just lost a bunch of XRP using the jatchili minimalist ripple client to generate my cold wallet. Per the linked post, it seems as though the issue is using the tool on Safari browser, which I was. The secret key I was given doesn't belong to my cold wallet address (even though both showed on the client at the same time and I printed it) - I've confirmed this on multiple sites. When I first set up the cold wallet, I did a test send to the address and it worked fine, I could validate that the XRP transferred and I didn't think I also should test my ability to send FROM the wallet, or test the key at all. That was my mistake. Only after I transferred the bulk of my XRP did I attempt a transfer any out. Then I realized that my key is useless and my wallet is without an owner. Is there any chance of Ripple giving these funds back to me? I mean, this web client is recommended in a number of posts of the Ripple forum, and I'm not the only user to have these issues. Seems like they must know about the problem and a warning would have been nice.

RJD
Always check, double check and tripple check when moving huge amounts or creating a wallet. Edit: finding out you lost your xrp's like this.. That's ****** Edited August 30, 2017 by RJD T8493
T8493
And the bug is likely either in the third party library that RippleAPI uses or in the Safari browser. However, neither browser nor this library were written by Ripple Labs.
crytotard
Thanks for the replies y'all...never seeing that money again, I get it. @jatchili how about an update on your instructions page? Seriously, your solution is recommended 100000 times on all the ripple sites and as a new (dumb) user, it was an easy mistake to make in thinking that your solution worked for everybody across the board. Granted I didn't do my due diligence, but you can easily prevent this from happening to more users.

EDIT: people also lost coins on other blockchains (Ethereum) due to similar bugs.
crytotard
Wow...had no idea. Thanks for the info. I shouldn't worry too much about it anyway, because XRP is going to get so high that the loss will be pennies, right? Right?!
yellowsubmarine
I've just found out about this when I tried to sell. Due to this bug, I've lost over 10,000 XRP. This is not Bitcoin, or Ethereum. Ripple is supported by the banks, right? So Ripple don't get to shrug this off as far as I see. Any technical solution possible? rgerhards
jatchili-minimalist-client was developed 2 years ago, and there have been no updates since. Jatchili is nowhere to be found. This program is broken now, and if you rekey your account, your money will be gone forever probably.
