Fiery_Titan
Hi all I have recently invested in Ripple like quite a few people it seems, and am currently storing it in a GateHub wallet. At activation of the wallet I was given a Recovery Key which I understand the use for. However at no point have I been able to view/access what my associated secret key is for the public key/address of my Ripple wallet. I understand GateHub do not have access to this and that it is encrypted, but for my own sanity I'd like to know what it is and securely store it myself as well. Does anyone know how/or where I can find out what it is? Thanks
nyrhockey094
Unfortunately I don't think you can get it. That is why they make such a big deal of telling you to write it down when you first created your account. I just checked my account and can't find it anywhere. rijokn
For future reference, stay away from Gatehub. They have the worst reputation of any gateway in all of crypto.

When you say 'it' are you referring to the Recovery Key (which I did record when it was displayed during set up) or are you referring to the secret key associated with ripple public key? I couldn't find anything on my account either to do with the secret key but then again I shouldn't as it is encrypted and not known by GateHub but I thought maybe there is another way to find it? 2 minutes ago, rijokn said: For future reference, stay away from Gatehub. What wallet would you recommend for storing Ripple as I don't really need the gateway features of GateHub but it was the easiest to setup quickly? Also when generating a ripple wallet address (eg using rippex) at what point are you shown or given the private/secret key? I'm a bit confused as to how that is given out without compromising security.

As far as alternatives, there are plenty. Kraken. Bitstamp. I am sure other exchanges will pick it up soon. Kraken support is very, very quick to respond. You won't wait a week like with Gatehub. rijokn
I'd go with kraken or use ledger nano once its supported. Get all money off from Gatehub asap and never do business with them again.
Mercury
@Fiery_Titan Click on the ripple wallet you wish to view (in case of more than one) The very bottom right hand corner there is an Advanced button. Under Ripple Options select Show Secret
namini
yes recovery key and secret key are two different things. - Recovery key helps you recover your Gatehub account, you have to save it when you create your Gatehub account. - Secret key allows direct access to your fund, you can find it as explained by Mercury in "Advanced" on wallet page. Never store those on your computer or anything connected to the internet, print the keys. and always use an up-to-date antivirus.
