RippleTrade/ Client Migration

Recommended Posts

I'm yet another person who is trying to recover an old 2015 Ripple account. It seems that RippleTrade shut down in 2016 and forced users to migrate to GateHub (or elsewhere) by March 2016. I missed this deadline as I had pretty much just bought some XRP and decided to forget about it for a few years and then check in.

I do not have my secret key. It was on an old laptop that died last year and I no longer have. Luckily, I did remember my user ID and password for RippleTrade. I logged in, and it says, "PLEASE READ: Ripple Trade is no longer available. Please retrieve your secret key and migrate your account to GateHub or another wallet provider of your choice."

It also says under the secret key section, "You must complete verification before you can retrieve your secret key." I entered a few verification questions (my name, personal info, etc.), and now it says, "verification status: pending-awaiting manual review."

My question is, is RippleTrade still doing these verifications, or is it a dead site with no staff any longer doing these verification, meaning I'll never get verified to get access to my secret key?

Actually, I figured out you don't need the secret key to migrate after all since I remembered the RippleTrade user ID and password. If anyone else finds this thread and has the same issue, please see page 9 of the following document. It will walk you through migrating RippleTrade to GateHUB, even if you don't have the secret, as long as you recall your RippleTrade user ID and password:

I am featuring this post- there seems to be a rash of people trying to recover old Ripple Trade Accounts. Thank you for posting and resolving @Bitcoinbluecrush

For those unable to see page 9 for whatever reason the steps are:

From Ripple Trade

  1. Go to and click Migrate to GateHub
  2. Sign up for an account with GateHub. If you already have an account, log in.
  3. Click Activate account with GateHub
  4. Sign in at GateHub
  5. Click Start Migration on GateHub. This will take you to a Log In at Ripple Trade.
  6. Login to Ripple Trade. The ripple name ( ~bob ) of the first account that you migrate will be
    your default GateHub name ( +bob ).
  7. Click Migrate Account
  8. You are then redirected to your GateHub account where you will see your Ripple balances.
Once you migrate, your Ripple Trade account will be deactivated.
  9. Click Continue to review and upload any additional information.
  10. The migration is complete! You can add as many Ripple Trade accounts as you want to your GateHub
account. To do this, go to the Wallets page on GateHub.

NOTE: This will transfer ALL Ripple info to Gatehub, which MAY include we will transfer your identity information including name, address, date of birth, government issued identification number, and contacts to GateHub. This *MAY* expedite Gatehub sign up (verification docs, etc.)

Alternatively if have your secret key saved you can (avoid sending Ripple's info to Gatehub):

  1. Log in to GateHub
  2. Go to your wallets page.
  3. Click + (Add wallet). Enter your GateHub password. Click the Import tab.
  4. Enter a name for your wallet.
  5. Enter your secret key.
  6. Click Import.

If you have trouble creating an account or getting verified on GateHub, email support@gatehub.net. If you have finished migration but do not see your balances on GateHub, contact support@ripple.com and provide your ripple name, attempted date of migration, and an explanation of the issue. Be sure to include screenshots of any issues you may experienced.

AND if you had an account with Ripple client and did not migrate to Ripple Trade you can still recover your secret key.

  1. Go to https://id.ripple.com/auth/migrate/ and follow the personal identification process
    described there.
  2. Enter account details from your https://ripple.com/client account when prompted.
  3. Optionally, migrate your account to any wallet provider of your choice. If you choose to
migrate your account to GateHub, you can do so by going to Ripple Trade and clicking
    Migrate Wallet to GateHub.

this does not work for people who have made accounts pre-ripple trade, and is an issue for us

Did you read the pdf?

If you have your ripple client info you should be able to use Ripple ID, if not get into touch with Ripple support. If it was through a desktop client... unfortunately your out of luck

Hi,

I do have my user login and password from RippleTrade, and i also have my secret key which start with s. I dont think my migration was complete because last year i was in the middle of migration , i didn't see my xrp balance on Gatehub. Then the next day i coudln't log in because Gatehub requires a recovery key when i forgot my password. ( I don't recall Gatehub sent  my recovery key via email ) so what do i need to do next? Is my xrp balance in Gatehub or still at RippleTrade ? (Should i create a new email account when i sign up a new account with Gatehub and start from scratch? Thanks!

yes I have read it, I have my ripple client ID and its not accepting the password or username (unclear which of the combination), or some other issue on the migration page, the error message doesn't clarify but seems to indicate "Wrong username or password". I am sure they are correct, but the whole process seems to have been rather botched so there could easily be something I am missing out on.

I have tried to contact ripple support for a couple of weeks, they have been very slow in responding and have asked if I have my secret key a couple of times, which I do not, and linked the same migration page besides. Waiting for another response for several days now. I am pretty sure it was not with a desktop client, but that seems quite wrong that people who used a desktop client are simply out of luck, this should never happen.  Thanks for the response anyways, its hard to get any help around here

I have my username and password but forgotten gatehub' password. I've tried the recovery key on gatehub  (32 characters) but it fails to recognise it.

What happens from here?
