kolokolek
hi i made some big mistake. I wanted to send my money from one exchange to another but i forgot type my destination tag. The number of account was good. Now i don't have my money neither of exchanges. I wrote to my exchange but now time to take response is very, very long. Is something what i can do now to take my money back?
Kerppi
Correct me if I'm wrong but I's say you don't really need it. I've never used it and all my transactions have gone through without any problems.
JoelKatz
Which exchange were you sending to? (Or if you want to PM me as much information as possible, I can tell you which exchange can fix the problem.)
Kerppi
What is the purpose of destination tag? I.e. if I click "deposit" in Gatehub all it gives me is the deposit address...

Here's a poorly written explanation from a while ago, I may try to find time to write an updated explanation: https://steemit.com/gatehub/@cmbartley/gatehub-brief-overview-of-ripple-vs-hosted-wallets Kerppi
namini
Destination tag is used by exchanges sharing one address for several users to know who deposit what (correct me if I'm wrong). It depend the exchanges, some allocate you a dedicated address and you don't need a destination tag.

If you pay a bill there's an invoice number and the bank's account number, now every customer sees the same bank account number, but every customer sees a different invoice number. So basically, it's the exchange's reference whom to credit the XRP to, does that make sense to you? Kerppi
If your target wallet does not provide a destination tag you don't need it. If it is provided but you wrote it wrong to your transaction I don't know what will happen.
