I thought the same, at least in context of porting Ethereum dApps to he XRPL, as I believe that Flare is aiming for more than that. Flare, with FTSO and F-Assets, is essentially looking to be the bridge currency for cryptos without smart contracts by offering a cross-chain DEX. So it is still very relevant and completely different from what the side-chains bring to the table. That said, given that a major push from FLR came from XRP holders, I agree with you that most XRP holders will think exactly what you just said. Especially with both Hooks (which solves most of the use-cases that smart contracts are used for today) and the EVM side-chain + the liquidity these systems will have access to once the AMM comes online...
