wen token?

I’ve been seeing chatter that on July 4th the network will be ‘launched’ but the tokens won’t be distributed… which makes me wonder what kind of launch this would be exactly. Presumably the tokens will be minted if they aren’t already. Stuff will need to move around on the network otherwise it’s not an actual live network…. So maybe custodial wallets will get their tokens but exchanges will need to wait until whenever they do it? In any case I hope there is little or no lag time between ‘launch’ and “yay I’m delegating to the FTSO”

IIRC SGB was distributed shortly after MainNet was launched. Am I misremembering? The wallets then got the distributed, followed by a couple of exchanges before trading was enabled. I'd expect similar timelines.

I could be wrong (with my bad memory) but I think it was done by a smart contract distributing in ascending wallet size order.  Took a day or three,  and that results in exchanges (very large wallets) being towards last.

Maybe the chatter I’m seeing is just misinformed, because that seems like the way to do it. Also exchange distribution is down to the exchanges, so they will have their own timelines.

True about the exchanges.

I think last time some of them were very slow to release tokens (weeks?  months?)  even though they did receive them from the smart contract.  I can remember being annoyed at the stupidity of users blaming Flare for the exchange’s tardiness.

I've  heard this chatter too. I wouldn't read much into it though. I haven't seen anything about this from the actual Flare team. Airdrops typically take a few days to a week. If it launches on the 4th, I wouldn't expect to get my tokens that day necessarily. We should get an update from Flare regarding the specifics of the airdrop in the next few days.
