I can't speak to the veracity of this, but I found this on Reddit via Telegram:

Maybe someone in here can confirm whether it's true or not

It is, in the sense that this was posted by one of Flare’s moderators on its official channel.

I’ve just posted instructions for connecting MetaMask to Songbird on our blog. It won’t work until Songbird is live though.

All other info in the original message is correct.

I noticed the RPC URL is different in both examples. So the RPC URL is basically the validator you're sending your transactions to?

The RPC is different, yes … it’s our own unique endpoint.

All signal providers will create their own.

Didn’t make sense to create a graphic without our own url.

From an end user perspective it makes no difference at all.

It is time for us to move past centralised exchanges

That may well be the case, but unless I am mistaken (which I would be happy if that were the case) - my XRP was on Coinbase during the Flare snapshot, so I believe they're my only option for participating in the Songbird airdrop.

Things move fast in this space, what was a good choice a year ago may not be now. I used MEW to generate an ether address … then they decided MetaMask was the preferred option.

Which wallet app you use is easy to change, you just import your address into a new wallet. Unfortunately, if you used an exchange for the snapshot you're stuck trusting that exchange for like 4 years.

We've already seen several instances of exchanges who stopped supporting certain jurisdictions since the snapshot. And no one expected a second airdrop based on the original snapshot. There were very few people who saw all of this coming.

At the time, if you weren't a whiz at using your XRPL wallet - and most people weren't because there's not a whole lot going on on-ledger - using an exchange seemed like the safer bet. Now, in hindsight, I think it looks riskier. But for better or worse, were all locked into the choice we made on December 12th.

Yes, totally understand. I was just saying..

Nothing can be taken for granted in this space, nor foreseen.
We could  all be out of pocket at any time.

Has anyone definitively said whether the smart contract will distribute to the address in that historical ledger block or will it look up the current memo field?

If it does use current that would be better for many because they could change off exchanges.  But it’s likely easier and faster to use the single historical block so that’s more likely in my opinion.
