XUMM question

Hello, I'm having a little trouble setting my xumm up. Please bare with me cause my knowledge of the XRPL is limited.

I had a toast client linked to my xrps, and i wanted to start using Xumm.

So I set up an account on Xumm (iOS), following the whole A-H security method since it's required for a full access account.

Then when I wanted to "transfer" my funds, I scanned a QR code that Toast had, in Xumm and everything seemed to work fine but it asked me to setup a new account for my funds. The puzzling thing is that it started going through the whole process of creating another A-H security, but it had the option to configure it later after the account setup, so I chose it.

When looking at my Accounts section in Xumm, there appeared two accounts, the first one I created with full access but not connected anywhere, and another account with read only access to my zerps. Seemed all good up until now, so I figured I should just erase the first account. But when trying to grand full access privilege and I go on to start creating a A-H style code, I keep getting back a message that, that code is being used by another /r address, or something similar to that, I've tried a bunch of times, so I guess I've messed up somewhere.

Should I just delete everything and start over again creating a new account on Xumm? And just scan the QR code in toast to get the funds?

Will deleting the read only access Xumm account..."consume" my 20 reserved xrps?

And also, should I just delete my Toast app from my mac and I'm done with toast? (after I secure Xumm works full access B)

I would appreciate any help!

Don't delete toast without first backing up your secret key(s) because XUMM does not let you export your secrets and if you need to ever import them to another wallet you won't be able to.  As to deleting and reimporting your accounts, there is no XRPL transactions used for that .. so no fees.  You can delete and reimport as many times as you like without restriction as long as you have the secret key(s) (for full access)

@Wietse has created a tool to convert to secret key format if you need to go from numbers to secret key.

Thanx alot! I followed XUMM instructions Migrating from Toast to XUMM and it worked fine!

What I don't get is the "Don't delete toast without first backing up your secret key(s)" part.

By backing up, do you mean just write it down somewhere? It's a simple string of characters that Toast reveals to you once you insert your (toast) passphrase.

Again, thank you for taking the time to help out!

I am not sure how toast works but bear with me. If you had something like mnemonic (12, 16 or 24 words...) or the XRPL master key (starts with an S-letter, so sXXX1234XXXX...) these are the "passwords" to your funds. These grant the full access to your money. The public key starting with R-letter is only the public address for reading what the address holds on the XRP ledger.

Without the master key or the mnemonic you will not be able to access your money ever again. These you should have written down or saved somewhere very well and securely.

Now Toast and XUMM are only tools to access these addresses and to send commands to the XRP ledger. Your funds are not "in" Toast or XUMM. You could have the secret key or mnemonic set up on both at the same time, then you could send transactions via both apps to the XRP ledger.

Now also, every time someone sends you a link like this be careful. They might be just to steal your funds. You could open these web files on an offline computer, which will never be connected to the internet again, and then do the conversion to be safe.

Cheap computer for this purpose could be worth the investment.

Yes. Just write it down somewhere .. and put it in a safe place .. so you can always reimport whenever the need arises.

Thanks for posting the link @BillyOckham! I agree with the comment by @Skippy - trusting links is dangerous in this space, and even a trusted link in a compromised browser can be an issue.

The spec I wrote to build this standard is open source, as is the tool on that link:

https://github.com/XRPLF/XRPL-Standards/tree/master/XLS-12

https://github.com/WietseWind/secret-numbers-to-family-seed

One will always be able to convert the XUMM secret numbers to the well known "family seed" s... format.

Thanx so much guys! I figured it out on XUMM (i guess) and got a full access account. The thing is that TOAST has stopped being supported by it's developers so I guess I should get rid of it. XUMM has a sharper UI too. The clarification though about the master key starting with sXXXXX really helps out!
