paulinouk
Hi All So I am slightly nervous and veryn out of touch - I really want to be able to gain access to my XRP for obvious reasons.... it is certainly not 20 we are talking about.... The vast majority of my XRP has never left my original Ripple Wallet endorsed by the company - I still have the .exe file (ripple-wallet-win64-1.4.1.exe) so can install the wallet if needs be... however, I gather recently it was discontinued and then the next wallet was also discontinued!? - we are talking years since I gained access but I never seemed to have an issue then... (perhaps not relevant now) I must say I am finding it hard to keep up! Also, I saved a code consisting of 35 characters - (combination of numbers and letters) - Am I right in thinking this is the code I need? I thought I read that if I still have access to the original wallet I could gain access? Anyway, again, any help for an ouot of touch and clearly very old man? Any help or links to a thread covering this would be a God send - I really don't know what to do... thanks in advance...
PunishmentOfLuxury
Does that 35 letter code begin with an 's'? If so, it's the family seed, more commonly known as the secret key. If you have a smartphone (Android or iOS) you can install the XUMM wallet by XRPL Labs and proceed to follow these instructions: Guard the secret key with your life - it's the keys to the castle. XUMM is safe. Global
paulinouk
Thanks for your feedback :-) I'm afraid not... It starts with a completely different letter.... So, presumably this is not the secret key then and might even be related to something else? Basically, I need to find the secret key? that always starts with an S? Is there any other way if say this has been misplaced? (I doubt i thas will just require lots of difgging).... Again thanks in advance.. and for the advice once found :-)
PunishmentOfLuxury
Does it start with an 'r'? Do you have the wallet.txt file and the related password which you should have remembered from when you set up the ripple-wallet-win64-1.4.1.exe years ago? No it's a P.... i'm thinking unrelated... I have a file that fits the description that having renamed .txt has a very very long code (636 to be precise... beginning with a vowel) - could this be what you are referring to? I will remember the password i'm sure... ... I am such a doughnut... Thanks again

Install the ripple wallet on a trusted, secure, malware-free, disconnected from the internet, PC and try to open the wallet file with the password. If you can open it, it's just a question of revealing and recording the secret key. Global
paulinouk
Ooh I will try that.... I have also just located what I think you were referring to earlier that begins with the letter r ... typically.... Is the method above still my best option or? Thanks again
brianwalden
The one that begins with r is your public key, also known as the wallet address. That's the one you share when you want someone to pay you. To control the wallet you need the one that starts with s. brianwalden
An executable for the old wallet has to be out there somewhere. If you can run it on your computer, it should be able use your wallet.txt. Unfortunately I can't tell you how to do that. Maybe try the Technical Discussion subforum.
