Lost 24word recovery phrase

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, i lost the 24 recovery phrase to my first wallet from 3years ago. I don't have a lot of xrp on that wallet but if there is a chance to recover it would be great. To make a long story short, i did find a picture of the recovery phrase that i wrote on a piece of paper once, however 4 of the words aren't readable. But the correct order of the list is very clear and also at least one or two letters of the missing words. Do i have a chance? What can i do?

Search for "bip39 wordlist" online, there's only 2048 words and you could sort it out by trying to find matches with the unrecognizable seed words you have. If by chance the word is not the correct one then your real accounts would not be derived but instead some different, unused address. Then try again (is what I would do). Hope it helps.

Thanks, but this is not possible because 4 words are not readable. If it was only one word ok, but how can i find the right combination

I thought you can see the word length of those 4 unreadable words, seed words are 4 to 8 characters long and we only actually need the first 4 chars, because the words are unique after that. I would sort the word list by length and then check for the characters you know, in the right position. It's like crossword puzzle maybe, since there is only a limited amount of words, it should not take too much effort to find out, in a text file. Depends on how much you want to try or whether it's worth it. Again, I assumed that you can guess the words even not clearly readable. Since you know at least some characters in those words, you could try to rule out all impossible ones. You also know the order of the seed words in the phrase. It should make it easier.

Thanks again, i thought there was a software/program or something. I think it's too much work and time consuming like that but thanks a lot for your advice

2^44 combinations which then have to be passed into further SHA512 and then this has to be converted into XRP address to see if such generated address is actually your wallet is too much :(

Yes,there may be ways/scripts/apps available to brute force recover the seed, I was just reading on ledger forum about it, and narrowing down the list of possible matching words will greatly reduce number of combinations needed. I don't know those words you cannot decipher, or if they can be guessed on that photo. So it's really not clear if it would be viable to attempt it, and cost/reward ratio etc... Good luck, whatever you do.

Excuse my ignorance but with a program it should be possible no? You're referring to the manual method right?

With my computer it would take about 1759218 days to complete the task. Maybe your computer is much much faster than my Intel i7

But as i wrote, you can still see some letters from the missing words. I thought it would be much easier /faster

Here 's  the complete (English) list of all the 2048 possible words. Maybe you can find the right words for those 4 by the non-missing letters you still have?
