NewtothisXRP77
I just left a message a minute ago but hit problem solved, by mistake. I’m new to this, so to make a long story short, I watched a YouTube video which said LIVE XRP giveaway. Me being stupid and naive, sent $1700 dollars to some scammers wallet. Is there anything I can do. I would appreciate the help. I’m new to this chat room, and just buy XRP on the Coinbase platform. I’m totally embarrassed, and of course have the transaction info, I’m already callling it a loss. The biggest mistake of my life , me being 43 years old. I acted to quick, but maybe there’s something I can do, report it or whatever. Abd the transaction is already a success. So it went through. Attached is the video I’m referring to. I’d appreciate the help, and don’t even know if anyone will see this as I just joined for help, thank you.

at3n
@NewtothisXRP77 Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done on a technical level, the transaction can't be reversed or anything like that. You may wish to report it to your local law enforcement agency, just to get it on record, and you could also report to the domain registrar for xrp.ltda that their customer is running a scam, they may shut the site down. Coinbase may also be interested, I don't know if they keep a list of scam addresses to stop people sending in the future. Unfortunately though as soon as this scam is shut down it will appear immediately with a new website and XRP address. You're one of many recently to be hit by these scams, you can find many other reports all over this forum. It's becoming a real problem for newcomers and I imagine it will only get worse as the scammers see how effective it is, and if this bull market continues more and more naive people are going to show up and be scammed. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope that it will not affect your life too badly, or stop you from getting back into XRP in the future.
ixarepe
Sorry to hear about your loss. The good news is that you are still early to the game. Re-buy the XRP and store them safely (e.g. a Nano Ledger). When XRP goes 10x or 50x you will look back with a smile on this learning experience. Stop creating a scapegoat out of the scammers only and apply partial blame on those that think some benevolent person is going to send them back 2X or 3X of something of value. This is literally out of the early 2000s Nigerian prince scams playbook, but tweaked for the cryptosphere. Stop blaming the criminal for the criminal behaviour? Wow. 2 hours ago, Panzer_Kitteh said: apply partial blame on those that think some benevolent person is going to send them back 2X or 3X of something of value Blame the victim for being vulnerable to the fraud? Jeez I’m glad you are not my parliamentarian. You do realise that these scammers are experts at providing a convincing story designed to trap vulnerable people who do not have the familiarity with the space that you have? Ever heard of airdrops? Are they all universally a scam? No they are not... only familiarity with the cryptosphere will tell one whether the airdrop is a scam. I agree there are rules of thumb to use, but blaming the victims is a despicable behaviour. Dario_o

NightJanitor
There is no crime or victim without the concept of personal responsibility on both sides. This concept is not foreign to notions of Justice; it is central to it. (I'd argue that there's yet a third side; that of the personal responsibility of those charged with administering Justice. This is an unpopular take, obviously.) (I'm sure there are more sides than just three... I can think of... quite a number more, just sitting here, but here's a song while we all ponder such a mystery.) The guy said he was 43. How he ever managed to accumulate $1700 is the serious mystery. If $1700 loss is the "biggest mistake of his life," he's lived less or gotten off easier than most. I can't follow him around and tell him to close his mouth and not look up whenever it rains, k? That wouldn't be fair to me, now would it? (Do you want to volunteer for the job? I decline it.) Save the self-righteousness re: "victim blaming" for rapists who say: "but her skirt was short!" Perspective in all things. Edited August 17, 2020 by NightJanitor Motion Denied. Case Dismissed. Lesson Learned? We'll see.

Stop trying to push some bizarre ultra theory of society on to the rest of us. Anyone with any common sense and decency knows that while not all victims are totally innocent, many are. But victim blaming is a sport for some with ultra views. NightJanitor and Dario_o 1

A pandemic of selfish economic ‘rationalism‘ largely pushed by narcissistic folk with no empathy for others in different situations than their pampered existences. If you seriously think that a lady walking down the street that has her handbag snatched is in any way responsible for that crime then I fear that you might be one of those that I consider as selfish and lacking empathy. Maybe I’m wrong. But your claim to legalistic formalism is... denied. But this is far away from thread topic. Anyone can be conned. If you think you can’t then you are pride waiting for a fall. Personally I am disgusted by YouTube, a company that it is fully aware of these cons and yet do nothing serious to stop them. In fact they drag their heels as much as possible, and I can only conclude that the profit is more important than their civic responsibility. Not sure on this specific one. 17 minutes ago, Dogowner5 said: The lady walking down the street that has her bag snatched is not at all, in even one iota, responsible. Those parliamentarians know what is the center of their universe and who is responsible (and are trying to avoid that responsibility mostly). You can join any action, take part of anything in this world because something is flashy and shiny and wants to shower you with wealth and dig that gold, The American dream; you have to be asleep to believe it. Keep voting (while keep getting robbed by that 'parliament' system yourself). Being sloppy/lazy/uneducated is NO excuse by any court within the modern Western world. Your case get dismissed most of the times simply because you should have known better. Anything else you dream, you dream of (but can become reality if you can change the world and put in the effort but than again, you wouldn't be probably in this mess in the first place). I don't like this part of the world any more than you do (because it fits my narrative atm?). We created that same world and came out of it and this after all is the age of lies. Lies earn more than truth, wouldn't you agree? And if that money buys all, there is only one winner (and courts are really honest, no seriously they are, especially in the US ).
