sorry to inform you dear sir, but this is indeed  a scam. I would contact Youtube and inform them that they are allowing impersonators to scam their customers. I would even consider suing Youtube.

Go ahead and post all the information on the transaction as some here are in the forensics subset and could have a look... it can't hurt...

Sorry for your loss.

You sent XRP to yourself? [EDIT] Ah yes, a youtube scam.

Before we get to the transaction details, you'll need to explain what app/wallet you used and where you sent the XRP. Please don't publish your balances or other personal information on this site (for your own security).

So I got scammed?

I'm not sure how you came to send XRP to a person you don't know - that's never a good idea. Ripple employees and this community have been trying to educate users for months about this danger.

The wallet was only activated yesterday. They didn't activate the wallet themself to avoid being traced. Whatever that address is, you are not the only one sending funds there so others are falling for this as well.

A few things to suggest:

  1. I suggest you report the wallet on bithomp so the wallet gets flagged as a scammer and others hopefully don't get stung. You can use this link: https://xrplorer.com/forensics/submit/rJAYkdnBD6nJkZTXPSPpRKfhzaDVCc4bZP
  2. Next thing you need to do is contact Youtube and report the video and user who created this scam. You could threaten legal action against YouTube but they have a poor record.
  3. Finally, you should report it to your local police as many countries have set up internet fraud units to investigate this type of thing.

Finally, for any other newbies reading this:

If anyone on social media (facebook, twitter, youtube etc) says they can make you money if you send them XRP - don't.

@joe323 - also, please be careful if anyone contacts you about the scam promising to get your money back. Some scammers will try to build trust with you to get you to send them more money with promises of recovering stolen funds.

So please slow down, breath and think carefully about what you do.

Everyone is my enemy from here on out with my money. Just like real life then. Fuk it and fuk them 2wice. Ty for your input and advice.

Sorry to hear about this bro. This is a difficult lesson for many newbies in this space to learn. As many have stated there have been many attempts by Ripple and Ripple employees to combat these scams, but still many fall for them.

Hello, sir!

I am the janitor here.  If I can recover your funds - and sometimes I do find lost items - I promise that I will place it in the lost and found and keep it safe for you!

In exchange for this promise, will you please agree to send me 500 XRP in advance?

ETA:  As I received no offer for 500 XRP, I'll assume that you learned this lesson.  I would add one bit of color:  You shouldn't assume everyone is your enemy, with money or anything else, but playing defense and being aware is everyone's responsibility.  Don't assume everyone is your friend, either. :)  "Remember, you defense."

Lesson learned? ETA: Looks like it. We'll see!

With things like Airdrops these days, it can be sometimes hard to separate legit from scams.  I admit when I heard about the Spark airdrop offer of 1:1 Spark for your XRP, I was like get outta here with that scamminess.  Apparently it's legit though.  I saw that Youtube clip and they did advertise it as an Airdrop, but when they were offering for 1:20 XRP or whatever if you sent them x amount, alarm bells went off.

Hell, just this afternoon someone hacked a friend's email address book and was spamming family for Amazon gift cards. Protect ya necks, guys n gals.

This is real life.

The guys taking people's XRP are the same type that borrow $20 then say, if you lend me another $20 I'll pay you $50 on friday. But if you lend it to them come friday they are no where to be found. A few days later. If you lend them $40 they will pay you $100 next friday.

Also the same guys who are shocked when you punch them square in the face.

They end most sentences with "my word bro"
