Bitpanda has the best rates for buying Bitcoins on credit card apparently. Then you can transfer the bitcoins to Kraken where you can buy xrp with them.

I use Kraken for all my trading but I don't understand why you have to transfer GBP/Euros into Bitcoin and then buy XRP with your Bitcoin.

That isn't required for ETH or Monero or ZCash.

Do you know if they have plans to allow direct fiat purchase?

Kraken does allow you to deposit fiat money, but only by bank transfer as they see credit cards quite risky.

Because Bitpanda runs in Euros it's still a bit costly for me to convert my GBP to Euros, but this depends on your bank.

I'm currently looking at Moneypolo, their deposit fees are 4%, and their fiat exchange fee is around 0.8%. From there you can directly buy Bitcoins through coinmate.io for 1% fee.

Yes it's a lot of fees... And i think coincorner has a lower fee of 5%. What works best depends on each currency you're starting with and what method of payment you want to do.

I transfer GBP to Kraken Fidor account and I get hit by an awful exchange rate  and £15 charge as well. The GBP to GBP Kraken option is rarely working so have to send to their Euro account.

I tried to use Transferwise to send my GBP to their euro account but Transferwise won't touch anything to do with Bitcoin or cryptocurrency.

My questions was more about why you have to buy bitcoin in order to buy XRP rather than a straight euro to XRP. Do you know if the volume keeps increasing if they will change this?
