Stellar, the cryptocurrency platform with global financial inclusion as its mission has announced the upcoming Bitcoin-Lumen giveaway program. The program that strives to increase the participation of Bitcoin community members in Stellar’s initiatives is not a new thing. The second such program of sorts, the upcoming Bitcoin-Lumen giveaway is scheduled for June 27, 2017.

Is it some scheme to bypass something? It just seems really weird that they mention this:

Bitcoin community members can claim their fair share of lumens until August 27, 2017, after which any unclaimed lumens will be allocated to the Stellar operational fund and the Build Challenge.

Why would they specify this? Aren't they able to use lumens anyway they want?

The following is the one i received a few months back:

https://www.stellar.org/blog/bitcoin-claim-lumens-2/

Sounds great....free stellar...they take a snapshot of the blockchain June 26th (in otherwords, be sure to have your purchases done before this date and in your polo account or qualifying exchange to qualify) for bitcoin holders. Pity in some cases as it's caught up in other cryptos at the moment.

Now the second leg of this is for xrp holders however they mentioned they took a snapshot of the (assuming xrp) blockchain May 14-2014....i'm assuming they're taking another blockchain snapshot to get a more recent amounts of xrp....but i don't see any mention of this in the afore-mentioned weblink i provided from their site?

I noticed Stellar seems to me moving slowly as well. Both are Jed McCaleb projects. I read recently they're now part of China's "WanCloud" (ie. factom uses this as well) but not sure what market they're specifically after. I'm assuming Stellar and Ripple aren't competing in all avenues but only some?

I'm still just really confused about exactly what i need to do to claim any lumens -- i only have a few zerp from back then as i only really understood what ripple was about a year and a half ago, but i did have about 1000 xrp or so in an old account i held on to

how are people going to verify it's their account?

Very good question. I've been wondering about this since the giveaway was initially promised. Will they watch the ledger for some kind of transfer? Make claimants transfer everything to an exchange?

There will most likely be a verification process from the account (rXXXXXXXX....) found on the ledger.  Don't get too excited though.  Read the fine print.  It's 1% of the holdings at that time, and there is a cap at 1.5million XRP or something in that range.

So basically, if you had 1mm XRP you get 10k XLM which is roughly 1600 XRP.  I see no downside to selling the XLM and increasing your position, but consider if it is worth the hassle based on your holdings at the time.

I don't want your STR, sorry Jed.

You can try being ashamed to put yourself on the same level as him: "accept and sell" .... But low as the "Judas Silver Coin" level you probably never will get - The "Champion of Betrayal" goes over 7 billion. Doubt you've ever been holding even 1% of that....

Only if you sold as an individual.  I could see market makers getting screwed, but me and my friends had buy orders all the way down.  Logged in and saw orders filled from .005 to .0019 :)

Nothing heavy, the orders were mostly there as a testing mechanism, but I know people who got in heavy at that time.
