I dont have time or will to talk to people who dont understand science. Blocked.

That’s not a very scientific answer...seems more like authoritarian speak to me. Besides, if we get rid of the sun then there’s no longer a problem.

Bitcoin isn’t going away regardless of your concern for the planet.

Besides, the implications of the immediate shutdown of coal, oil, CNG powered plants would mean the end of much of the civilized and developing world.  BTW, why did Germany get rid of nuclear energy and how did that turn out?   Hint: Climate change. Hint 2: they relied on more coal fired plants

That is because there is no science behind the “Sky is Falling” theory.

Goddamn this is a reckless and idiotic comment. Please delete it — you’re spreading misinformation.

Exxon and companies like them were well-aware of the extinction outcome of fossil fuel emissions even while they were lobbying governments to let them pursue that outcome. Our kids are going to suffer because of idiocy like yours: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/exxon-knew-about-climate-change-almost-40-years-ago/

75% of the energy used from mining comes from renewables. Im not arguing btc is 100% is green, but btc is unfairly targeted for being wasteful. Might as well ban gold mining along with it then. And considering 1 small state in the USA uses more energy than many of the smaller countries which have a crap load of people, id say the comparison sounds worst than it really is.

That 75% is a highly suspect figure bandied about by the pro BTC crowd. The cold hard warming fact is that any time electricity is burned unnecessarily it increases demand on the worldwide grid. We have obvious better currency alternatives. Wait till Greenpeace, Sierra Club, U.N. Council on Global Warming et al start putting BTC in their target sites. Less than 12 months away I would think. Transferring BTC will be seen as so politically incorrect that it will equated with  the KKK. Anyone trying to spend BTC will be ostracized.

BTC reward has been important to ignite the digital asset revolution, just as horse-drawn carriages were revolutionary at their time, leaving a important legacy to how things are done today, after 2K years  http://www.astrodigital.org/space/stshorse.html

BUT

Our roads are not filled with horse manure anymore

horse manure POW is obsolete.

BTC-POW has a costs of around $200,000,000 a month. Add the altcoins' POW costs to this waste (can't find any data, but don't think it's much cheaper)

sure, it's called bitcoin. just because you find it worthless, doesn't mean i and many others do. i use it as a hedge against the current system.

The bitcoin network isn't worth anything, nor does securing it have any value. Bitcoin will be the last PoW man standing, sure, for however long the bitcoin whales are okay with wasting money in the fight against energy scarcity.

Until markets decide otherwise ill continue to long btc and hold some. I agree, there are better alternatives to pow, but im in this space to make money. Since no one knows the future, i hold both xrp and btc. At least one will prevail.

Ach man, what is the point. In this day and age , Person has to first make people BELIEVE in scientific data and reason, before he can even have a discussion. I cant believe there are people in here, on FORUMS DEDICATED TO PAYMENT TECHNOLOGY, that basically say - HEY , I DONT CARE FOR SCIENTIFIC DATA AND CONSENSUS, THERE IS FEW GUYS THAT YELL ITS ALL HOAX SO WE CANT BE CERTAIN, or just go on full retard and say its proven that there is no rapid human induced climate change.

Seriously, it takes all energy out of me to even have any discussion here. I know there is some freedom of speech , bud these kind of people and their opinions should be outright banned, its worse then posting child pornography cause its actually more damaging for society, idiots like these will  be why there will be famine and water shortages , bud what do people of reason say then, "we told you so?", at that point its just waste of breath.

Even now we are pretty much out of time, yet i still have some hope for the lack of better word that we can LIMIT THE DAMAGE, bud for this to happen we cant just say, HEY ITS NOT THE BIGGEST IMPACT, SO LETS FORGET ABOUT IT, dude , POW systems are small now maybe, bud in a few months or next year , you might end up with bull run, idiotic pumps etc, that would bring whole crypto space up, bud that is fu**n dangerous, cause we have these ignorant people on the forum and the planet, that just dont care, for themselves, civilization, their children or family.

Either some of you look for attention, want to differentiate yourself from *main stream* that are so desperate to talk this bs. What is the reasearch you did on this topic ? Nothing, what is the basis of your knowledge? Some youtube moron that cant explain most basic things without yelling subscribe in between the sentence?

What is your agenda? To spend your free time spewing **** and annoying random people on the internet? Wont you feel at least a bit ashamed of yourself in few years? I expect to have these kind of comments and idiots at some parts of the internet  ,bud here?

Ignorance is a bliss, it truly is, you want to live in illusion, thats why you dont question your opinions or seek more data/facts, you want to leave your brain in comfy state. Thanks @jbjnr for his replies, im astonished you have energy to deal with these people still, im sure throughout your life you met many more of them, I just dont have patience and will do go into long discussions with ********* .

Im out.

My point was that Bitcoin has no use case that can't be better met by some other asset that is not so wasteful. Gold is not just used as a store of value, it is used in dentistry, electronics, jewellery, etc. To argue that the two are comparable is to look at it with a very blinkered view. If you want to use a digital asset as a store of value then why not use one of the many technically superior assets that do not use a PoW system? Bitcoin is, regardless of what maxis say, based on a now obsolete consensus algorithm and, if sense prevails, it will slowly fade into the background as technically superior, more efficient technologies take its place.

We should send everybody worldwide a memo to remind them BTC is absolete. It just has the first movers advantage and is exploiting that to the fullest.

Now we just have to agree what asset we will select to replace BTC to offer them an alternative. Anyone?

Well as Bitcoin doesn't have a use case I don't think that an alternative is needed. What use would it serve?

Haven't you heard? It's the best store of value the world has even known! ;)

(I agree, to be clear...)

This thread really took a drastic swing.

IMO Gold is worthless. It only has value because the governments recognized early on that it was a limited resource, and they could falsely peg their printed paper currencies against it. (Disclosure: I really like conspiracy theories and playing devil's advocate, but this one is pretty well supported). Gold really doesn't serve any useful purpose. In fact, most countries fiat currencies haven't been gold-backed since the early 1970s. It's only retained by countries out of fear that one country would possess all of the gold, and obtain some sort of power status because of it. Someone on here recommended the book Currency Wars about a week ago, and it will blow your damn mind... Highly recommended.

Also IMO: Large investors realize that Bitcoin's only value is being first to market, and are now trying to justify it by calling it digital gold. I wouldn't be surprised if they literally try to peg it against gold in an attempt to justify it's future value.

Lastly, the best thing that could possibly happen is for Bitcoin to run all the way up to $100k or even higher. Every single time it starts to take off it exposes itself as inefficient and out-dated. At that level it would consume significantly more energy and only draw more negative attention to itself. Bitcoin will likely not go away quietly, but it will likely reach a top-out value that it will not go beyond based on its own inefficiencies.

You believe what Govt studies and Hovt funded science tells you to beleive. I will believe the recorded history of the earth’s climate stored in growth rings of trees and polar ice. Climate has been wildly changing ever since the planet solidified. Fact is we are in the most stable climate period the earth has ever seen.

Your smart children will thank those that resist the idiotic power grab from globalists. The dumb ones will forever be servants of the govt.

Go enjoy your day driving your coal burning “EV” and pat yourself on the back. Sure there is 0 emissions from your car. Keep ignoring the power plant that is working overtime to charge it. I guess you are one of the “out of site, out of mind” progressives. After all how can you rationalize a climate treaty that does not even include earth’s largest polluting countries?

Look at Great Britain: the intelligent Progressives voted to give up their own country’s sovereignty, and now the  fools actually believe they can vote to get it back.
