Wallet Restoring

I recently lost the phone I had my old toast wallet on, but I did make sure to write down the recovery phrase and the passphrase. When I download the app and try to restore my wallet, it asks for my backup code. Am I out of luck if I do not have that?

I am not an expert so I am hesitant to offer this opinion,  but just so you are at least starting to get a response....

I would say yes...   it looks grim.

On the other hand if you have a backup of the phone itself,  then you might be lucky if you can restore the old phone to the new phone....   although even then it might recognise it’s a new instance and still ask for more than just the password.  I hope that you have success,  but it does appear grim.

An unlikely option...    If your exchange was Gatehub and you had the wallet there also,  then you could log in to Gatehub and still access the XRP.  That isn’t likely I suppose but thought I should mention it.

A lot of people don’t really understand the ”wallet” concept and think the XRP are on the phone.  They actually are all over the world in every node.  Your secret key was what was on the phone.  So if Gatehub also have it then you have two ways to sign transactions.

Sorry I can’t offer better news.

These folk might be able to offer some advice....

Re-reading I see you say “my old Toast wallet”.  Does that mean you had multiple wallets?  If so at least you haven’t lost all.  So be careful,   Don’t override a new wallet while restoring from a phone backup trying to recover the old one...

I think you might be ok. Have a read through the FAQ. It does state if you have lost both pass phrases, your account will not be recoverable. But you do have your recovery phrase, so you might be good. 🤞

Try customer services too.

Oh crap...  I totally and repeatedly misread his post...  I thought it said DID NOT write down.   Early stage senility.

Luckily he hasn’t come back yet so it looks like my screwup won’t cause problems.  Thanks so much for replying Fred.

@Tinyaccount Just edited my post. You are right. Doesn’t look good

Wait what?   Damn it I am confused now...  I shouldn’t have spoken up in the first place..  though the tag to Toastwallet might help.

No, what you said was spot on. Without a prior backup before losing the phone, your wallet is not recoverable!

Ah....  ok yeah I see now.  Bugger.  Doesn’t look good again...  sorry for the confusion I caused.  Was trying to be helpful but stuffed up.

Thanks Fred,  for being a actual help...

You were right. My edited post confused you I think.

I assumed if at least if you had the ‘recovery code’, then recovery would be possible.

I wonder how many wallets are out there that have not been backed up?

Im guessing Toast advises this backup on creation of a wallet, but how many do?

Cant beat a Key-pair for simplicity!
