Have access to a wallet, but no passphrase or recovery phrase

Recommended Posts

So here's a newbie question: I have the Toast on my Android, and I access it regularly, no big deal. I also have access to the backup, so I've installed it on my PC as well.

However, I can't seem to find the passphrase or the recovery phrase. Don't ask. Anyway, is there a way for me to reset these values, or am I done for?

Thanks

I read this again. You should save your secret key from within toast wallet. ANY software wallet is not a storage facility. It's a convenience wallet and it should be encrypted but you should have the secret key backed up.

Software wallets can corrupt your wallet file, especially if it's encrypted. If the computer is saving to a file and the power goes out or the drive gets disconnected the file can be saved as blank or corrupted. There is no fix for this other than having your wallets backed up in a non corruptible form such as paper or wood or metal engraving.

If you can't retrieve your secret see about setting a regular key for the account and backing that up. You'd have two keys. The master key on toast and the regular key you backed up.

What if I have a cold wallet (public and secret key) and no passphrase?  I downloaded toast but can't seem to figure out how to move my XRP out of cold storage without this passphrase.

@oldnoobie

If you want to use Toastwallet and there is no import facility in Toast for a secret key ( @ToastWallet ? ) then you need to create a Toastwallet new account and send the XRP to it.

Two issues are that it will cost you a leftover reserve amount (currently 20 XRP) in the old wallet address

and you will need to temporarily trust a web wallet to send it.

theworldexchange.net is one example that will let you enter your key and then send to new address.  The dev is a longtime member here and seems helpful and decent.

Use notepad and clipboard to ensure addresses work and initially send only 22 XRP to check it works.  Then send 1 XRP from new Toastwallet back to your old address to “prove” the viability of the Toastwallet.  If all ok send the rest (less 20 XRP reserve amount) to new Toastwallet address.

Close workdexchange browser window and clear cache and cookies.

ALL OF THE ABOVE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.  I DONT VOUCHE FOR ANYONE OR ANY WALLET.

@sour123 Unfortunately you will not be able to recover the wallet. If you have the recovery phrase but no passphrase you could reset your passphrase. Without access to either, unfortunately you will not be able to access the wallet.

@oldnoobie You would create a new wallet in Toast and go through the setup, create a passphrase etc. After that is complete you will get to the accounts page with the + sign. After pressing the plus sign click the Add Existing Address button. On the following screen it will ask you for your secret and account address which you will be able to import there after.

Hope this helps!

So you already have a key-pair (r and s keys) with an amount of XRP and you want to import these keys into Toast wallet or have already done so?

If you have imported your original key-pair(cold-wallet keys) to Toast wallet and have lost the Toast passphrase, your XRP are fine as you still have your secret key.

Just for clarity, you can have many wallets and one key-pair. A wallet is just an interface that connects to your key-pair.
