What is the best unit for micro-transactions in a machine-to-machine (M2M) economy?

XRP? Maybe, you'd be surprised at what's coming, e.g. things with ZERO tx fees.

Japan love M2M, want to boost stagnant economy. (Also strong fintech sector there). Since Ripple are quick will play a role, but unit of choice may end up being something just as quick.

Depends on what ledger those machine are running - imagine lots of machines running on Ethereum, than ETH might be a better option over XRP when 2 systems want to do value tranfers. In mixed environments, even for micropayments, ILP may serve to connect between ledgers and RCL to offer fast & cheap Xchange between different currencies. That combination might be an alternative way for value transfers in the IoT world ... What do you think are the odds that we're heading to mixed environments?

Not sure, all good Qs. Problem I see is only room for ONE (fastest, best networked) asset as makes no sense for markets to blow profits for no good reason, if all markets ILP connected. Zero sum game for digital assets? Dunno. XRP ahead for now but faster things coming inc ZERO tx fees yet safe network. Even fiat systems e.g. hybrid money or digital basket mixes might be viable for cross-border! Exciting times, uncertain winners/losers.

Question - for the M2M applications under consideration - what are the Ether costs?

My experience with Ethereum is that in a era of free ubiquitous computing the COST to run an application is huge.

Try installing Akasha app by Ethereum people - Juan Benêt and Vitalek are advisers to the Akasha project... so they have current thinking baked in. However, I do not want to PAY for each Topic and for each comment.

I do not think machines will want to either, but lawyers will pay for registration if documents.

I am interested in learning more about M2M applications. Please expand!!!
