I don't think Ripple will buy Moneygram. They could have started a remittance company a long time ago without the burden of legacy systems that Moneygram has. I think Ripple stay focused on providing payment solutions to financial institutions, they don't want to have their own payment company. Should they buy Moneygram or run another similar company, I think others would always suspect that the Ripple's company gets some kind of preferential treatment. Ripple would no longer be seen as a neutral supplier, which would hurt their business. Just my opinion.

Moneygram problems are telling me that old ways of running remittances are really not sustainable, which is good news for Ripple, even if Moneygram is their client.

Yes I get that part and partially agree but what better way to display your technology by acquiring a company like MoneyGram!  I see this as an opportunity for ripple to fully  implement their  technology , showing the entire world what real time transfers and cost savings are.

I think what you're not taking into consideration is the INSANE amount of work it would take to move from MoneyGram's legacy systems to a fundamentally different approach to international remittances. It would be a huge distraction from their core business model.

in seriousness though, it's a little bit embarassing as far as xrp goes because it was one of the very, very few organizations we knew had explicitly said they would use xrp as part of their payments flows and ripple had touted that... https://ripple.com/insights/moneygram-use-xrp-faster-international-payments/

MoneyGram is in 200 countries. Currently, as far as I know, Ripple does not have corridors in that many. With that much debt, time isn't on MoneyGram's side.

I've no doubt people were impressed with the potential buuut.. time to pay baby.

Embarrassing for who? I don't think ripple/xrp could fix whatever issues MG had unless they fully integrated the tech, which they have not! MG had apparently been dealing with that $1b debt for a few years now and have been trying to get bought for also a few years! So they have been dealing with a few other issues for xrp or ripple to come by and fix all their problems!

Good luck to MoneyGram if they chose to not go with Ripple and xRapid.

It's time for Ripple to put it's business hats on something amazing can come out of this if the game is played right.  Obviously MoneyGram is in need of a cash infusion to pay down debts and remain well (MoneyGram) The old way of business isn't cutting.  In comes Ripple to save the day not to buy MoneyGram no but offer them a cash incentive to utilize Xrapid. More like an alignment as opposed to a buying MoneyGram they are already partners but maybe Ripple does not care if MG sinks who knows.
