Change secret key

You need to set a regular key(new). Once you are satisfied that it works, disable the master key(current).

I would recommend experimenting with a test account here:

https://test.bithomp.com/xrptools

Please take steps to ensure that you are doing this securely. It is also wise to learn about online and offline signing.

You should be able to apply this to your account here:

That is absolutely possible but you should know that many times people have got themselves into trouble with a disabled master key.

It can of course be done, and done with no risk of a problem like I mentioned above,  but only if you know what you are doing.

If you are a methodical person and can proceed with caution, and verify that the regular key works before you disable the master, then all should be well.  But as I say...  others before you have come unstuck somewhere along the way.

I can't offer more than that general advice because although I could do it if I wanted to,  I haven't had the need and haven't done it before.

Good luck to you with your actions and decisions.

This ^^

If this was my account, I would only attempt it with 21 XRP or so balance. I would make sure I could send before adding any significant amount.

I think the main problem before was the lack of a check before the master key could be disabled. I believe it was added, so now the only way a master key can be disabled, is with an enabled regular key. And just to be complete, you need the secret from the regular account to sign your transactions after you disabled the master key. There is no check the regular key works, so the tests mentioned above are crucial!

From this point, secure the secret from the regular key(account) as your secret, and you can forget the old secret. If you search the forum, there are quite a few people that wish they could re-enable the old secret key (and that cant be done...)

There is a recent thread on here that has someone saying that a multi sig account with disabled master can in fact be reenabled via the multisig.  But that's of no use to individuals' accounts with no multi sig.

Anyone can set a multisig to their account. bithomp.com/tools

Once master disabled, you can't enable it back.

You can use multisig or regular key when master is disabled.

You can't disable master, unless you set a regularKey, multisig or both regularKey and multisig.

If anyone wants to play around, testnet tools here https://test.bithomp.com

The post I referred to is below.  Unless I am misunderstanding,  it suggests you can reenable the master if you have multisig.

Oh btw...  the tools you have provided are awesome.

You can re-enable the masterkey if you can gather the required number of signers for multisigning.

Assuming you are able to submit a multisign transaction with the required signing weight, you would then submit a accountset transaction with the clearflag field set to 4.

@Tinyaccount Thanks

@Kakoyla do you have a transaction id which would re-enable master? testnet or live?
