There’s a significant number of banks that are currently considering take a step towards crypto and using xRapid in order to process cross-border transactions.

“To deploy something for Standard Chartered, Santander or Bank of America, our solution needs to scale to hundreds of thousands of transactions per second – this was in the design from the outset,” Birla said.

Can Ripple move 100,000 transaction a second? If not what needs to be done to achieve the speed required is it a "quick" scale up?

With payment channels they can get that high but not the ledger native speed.

Publicly they hit 70k I think in testing that we know.

Cobalt isn't for TPS that's just a side effect and marginal. Also Cobalt is considered not a near term priority consistently by the Ethan and David.

Yes if using payment channels.  That has always been part of the plan.

There is a reason that Ripple set their escrow to realease a billion XRP per month...    we are currently in the innovators stage of the adoption curve.  Have a look at the slope of the next phases...

Adoption curve

Reverse the labels, and it can be a substitute for the IQ bell curve.

The innovators stage has been a few years till now.. (say 4 yrs?)

We are just about moving onto the early adopters. (Apps have been released by Banks, XRapid in Prod recently)

Based on this it will take another 5 years atleast to get to the peak!!

Thanks @Tinyaccount I like this explanation... 15 to 18% market penetration is considered "the tipping point...

The 4 Stages to Technology Adoption Inside the Chasm

“From great bitterness comes a great awakening”

"In the world of disruptive high tech medical devices, Geoffrey A. Moore’s “Crossing the Chasm” is the playbook by which you learn to secure a niche and use it to leverage into the mainstream market."

"The greatest medical device executives will tell you war stories of taking their technology to market, fighting tooth and nail for supremacy, and what it takes to stay on top."

"It all starts at the chasm."

"Outlining the technology adoption lifecycle, Moore shows that customers sit at various places at various times. When you get to a tipping point between 15 and 18 percent market penetration, the system tips and you get mass-market acceptance of an idea."

"This is known as “Crossing the Chasm”, and in a company’s journey, it receives little attention once the excitement of mass-market adoption overshadows it."

(Bold emphasis is mine)

Not necessarily, people like Paul Krugman said the internet would have the same impact as the fax machine. He also didn’t see the point in using xrp for cross border payments because in his opinion the consumers wouldn’t care. Some people that would be considered high in IQ can lack common sense in other areas.

15 to 18‰ of the swift network?

Ripple is targeting 10‰ of swift in 2 years.  So hopefully we get there in < 3 years! This is in line with Brads guidance of 3 - 5 yrs.
