What exactly is going on at Coinbase?

Recommended Posts

Putting aside whether they're adding XRP or not, for such a large company they are acting out in bizarre ways.

They issue odd press releases for coins they're "considering", then mere days later come out with another statement and say they're "unlikely" to even add the coins they just put a press release on that said they were considering.

No other exchange behaves like this, no other company even that I can think of, what's happening BTS over there to make them act out publicly? Its like their PR is run by a malfunctioning host in Westworld.

Personal opinion- it's more market manipulation and insider trading from their staff.  This is no different than their bitcoin cash fiasco that everyone seems to have magically forgotten about...

If we had the wallet addresses of their staff, I have a feeling we would see massive buys on those coins listed, followed by a sell off 24-48 hours after the news was released.

That would be criminal.

Only if you get caught, remember there is virtually no regulation in this space right now.  It's like the wild, wild west.  I personally believe this jargon coming from CB is solely to manipulate the market.

Well they are in the middle of a lawsuit over the Bitcoin Cash issue from Coinbase users, although to my knowledge, there haven't been any criminal charges.  However, the SEC is pretty clear in that insider trading can take place in public or private companies. So regardless of their ruling on Bitcoin not being a security, that still leaves Coinbase open for a criminal investigation.

The PR is like the PR is for USA. Today Trump says something that he will take back tomorrow :)

I really don't believe that Coinbase staff are engaging in market manipulation through their blog posts. That would be quite absurd.

I do think Coinbase are in an awkward place where that they are so powerful for the market that if they add something suddenly, they'll be accused of manipulation if it goes up really high.

So they try and preempt this by saying they might add some in the future. Then they're accused of manipulation anyway.

At this point I don't really see how they can add something without being accused of having ulterior motives.

"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence"

All evidence seems to point to CB simply being a bunch of jackazzes.

This is hard to believe for me, only because surely the risks outweigh the rewards when it could take down the entire company?

If they really ARE this stupid, they will eventually face the music and it will be bad for everyone.

Yes you are right. The difference is that Trump is so stupid he don't realize what he has said before someone explains that to him :) And then he takes that back.

Man, please leave politics out of this.  If you have an actual point to make then make it, but please somehow link it back to XRP or Ripple.  @Mercury

As opposed to purposely deceiving the people...
