XRP as a Birthday gift: where to begin?

Hi guys,

Just recently I had the thought of gifting XRP to my friends and family as a birthday gift. 

I want to do this in the form of a plastic XRP card (like a debit card) and a nice infographic what XRP is all about. Why gift fiat if we can gift XRP instead and drive interest/adoption?

Where to start? How can I do this the most efficient way? What are your experiences with this?

I gifted my niece some XRP using a paper wallet.  I created the wallet and funded it.  Recorded the secret key onto a credit card sized piece of paper. Then I got some nice coloured paper the same size and put multiple layers of it loosely stacked on either side of the secret key so you can't see through when held up to light.

Then I put it through a laminator.   So now there is a pretty coloured laminated wallet sized card with a secret key inside.  To get the key just slice the laminate and only the outer front and back are stuck to the laminate...  The key sheet will fall right out.

Then I created a bithomp explorers link to the wallet and texted that to her after I gave her the card.  She just clicks the link and can see the XRP and its USD worth at any time in bithomp.

Told her to hang on to it.   I hope I gave her something that will be valuable one day even though the amount was only a birthday present amount.  I didn't keep the key so if she loses the card that's down the drain but hopefully she values it enough to hang on to it.

I hope you find a similar pleasure in giving the gift.

Using a ledger device with a small xrp balance would work.

I hope she's a responsible adult cause otherwise that's got a 90% chance of getting lost I would estimate...….Maybe I have trust issues but unless they're crypto savvy I wouldn't expect them to know or not lose anything...…

I've thought about this too. It's a cool idea! I just wonder what a safe place would be to store such an important piece of paper?:)

We've all grown so close as friends on here that I feel like we are like family, so I won't give you too much grief for missing it.... just make sure to mark down March 1st on your calendar for next year  

Seriously though, going with what others said do a picture of the two of you, put the info in an envelope and put it in between the picture and the frame with instructions (obviously tell them its there)...

If it were me, I'd give them a nice hardcover edition of a classic piece of literature with enough chapters so that I could put red dots under the letters for each word, in order but not on consecutive pages, per chapter. Then put a nice little note in the front saying something to the effect of 'The key to your destiny rests inside you.'

Don't Nanos cost about £100 or so? Some nice ideas on this thread, but surely the easiest way would be to set up a Binance account for them (if that's possible with the KYC requirements?).

I've done this quite a bit.. Christmas, graduation, etc.

Just make a throwaway yahoo email account and a Binance account for them. 

No verification other than email for them on Binance. Once they get into binanace, they can change the email account.  You need a temporary email address for them that you can access to do the email verification.

Just send whatever XRP to the account and then print your own birthday card insert that explains XRP and gives the password for the email account and Binance account. (Make them the same password for ease)

For the email creation and Binance account creation I generally just make an account similar to their actual email account but add the letters BIN into it.  For example, if I was doing this for my friend John Smith, with email johnsmith at Yahoo, I would make an email account johnbinsmith at Yahoo.  Easy to remember.  Then the password something like XRP4Birthday! 

Print it up and put it in their card.

Actually people I've done this for LOVE it.

Don't give someone something they don't want. They will just throw it away or lose in month or two.

That’s certainly true.  But if you give someone a link that easily shows them the dollars amount the XRP represents then I think they are unlikely to throw it away.  

Ive seen people holding on to free drink vouchers for ages...  how much more likely are they to hold on to something that represents real dollars.  

For those that don’t know how...    here is a Ripple wallet (I got it from the Ripple explorer) put on to the end of the bithomp explorer url to give a direct link:

You can see you just replace the Ripple wallet address at the end with the one you are gifting.   Send it in an email or text and they can forever after just check their current wallet worth.   (It’s in USD in the balance card at the near top of the display)

The gift card with secret key could get lost or stolen,  but it’s always worth something so I doubt it will be thrown away deliberately. 

My niece is a young adult so easily able to just keep it in a drawer or wallet.

Yes the nano works out around $100 so it would be a decent priced gift.

Talk about a blast from the past! I just saw your post from 2018 and couldn't help but think how ahead of the curve you were with the idea of gifting XRP. It's a fantastic concept to introduce your friends and family to the world of cryptocurrency, especially when it's a coin as prominent as XRP.
