Hey guys. So im sure everyones heard about the Edge wallet supporting XRP. I want to transfer my zerps from Rippex to edge without reserving another 20zerps for the new wallet. Is it possible to complete this kind of transfer and if so, how? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi guys,

Having a bit of a panic attack here so apologies if this is not the right thread.

My hard disk just went bust and I had my Rippex wallet with all my XRP in it and no back up (I know I know, stupid).

Worst of all, my secret key was also on the computer. I have a few questions:

1. Can the Rippex wallet can still be downloaded somewhere?

2. Is there a way to recover the secret key? I remember writing down a 12-word recovery key, but I can't remember if it was for Rippex or other wallets I tried before that.

Sorry for the n00b post, hope somebody can help.

That's the crunch I'm afraid....     If you have that secret key you have no problem.  Without it you are stuffed I think.  I'm sorry to be saying it.  I don't think the Rippex wallet used recovery words but I can't be sure...  you will have to read up on that.

On the up side there are hard drive recovery options after a crash.  There is probably a number of places in your area that can recover hard drive data for you at a cost.  If you do go down that road make sure that once your key is recovered you move your XRP to another wallet because if the business you used has your key they also have your XRP anytime they want them.

Be aware that your XRP are never on your drive...  all that is in a 'wallet' is the secret key and software for creating cryptographically signed valid transactions.  Your actual XRP are in the distributed XRPLedger accross many computers all over the world.  The secret key and a wallet software are the way you access and move those XRP.

Thanks a lot! I think I printed the secret key so I might have a chance. Can the software still be downloaded? It is not available from Rippex' website or anywhere else I've looked I'm afraid.

The secret key is all.  Got that and you are golden.   I don't know if Rippex is available...  I think it should be from GitHub.

You do not need to stick with the Rippex wallet if you can't get it again...  any wallet that allows import of secret key (most I think) will be ok.  The problem is which one to trust and how to get it...    I am actually living post-PC so I'm a bit out of touch with all this now.  There are FAQ pages here and the links section....  Maybe have a read there.

The main thing is if you do have that key printed you actually don't have to do anything except protect it...  your Zerps will be happily nestled on the ledger and whenever the price lifts enough you can revisit the wallet issue then...  Until then just hodl.   :)

I should add that I firmly believe at some point banks will be integrated with XRPLedger in such a way that to access Zerps you simply need to enter your key once in your internet banking, and the bank will thereafter manage it for you...  instantly transferring them anywhere and into anything whenever you wish.

One last thing (and sorry folks for spamming....) but if you have a printout of your secret key,  then what you have inadvertently achieved is what's called a "paper wallet" which is considered perhaps the safest of all for holding XRP.

In other words there is no electronics involved anymore...  you just have the key completely offline and safe until you need it.  Just do not ever hold the paper key anywhere near a camera...  which of course includes your phone, laptop, smart tv etc.

Agreed, but as I'm no tech person, if the printer is wifi enabled, does that not leave you open to exposing that secret key?

Thanks a lot for your help! I'm pretty sure I printed the key and left it somewhere, now I just need to be lucky enough to find it. This has been pretty stupid on my behalf.

If I can find it, I'll have to take my SSD drive to a data recovery center, although I've read this can be extremely expensive.

Oh absolutely....  printing a key potentially leaves it in printer memory, has wifi access etc etc...   but given that he has already done all that in the past and it can't be changed....

If it was me and I had the r address, I would just look in bithomp explorer and if the XRP are there, and the secret key is safe, just leave it all alone until moon.  If he doesn't have the ripple address then get a offline page of theworldexchange.net and enter the key to find the r address,  delete the page and the browser cache then look up the funds and if safely there...   then just relax.    :)

Just realised I stupidly didn't print my key and the SSD data recovery costs  £1,600 without a guarantee they will recover all the data.

That all my XRP gone then. I definitely learned a valuable lesson with this.

Thanks for everyone's help and input.

I haven't looked but I would be surprised if there is not some freeware software available that will at least try and reconstruct the drive.  It depends of course on the crash and the damage done....  It also depends on whether it is a corrupted drive or a damaged drive.

Before giving up I would have a look around for recovery software.  I'm not an expert and can't be sure it exists,  but I suspect there is a chance that it does.  Good luck with it and thanks at least for sharing so that others might be forewarned.
