Is It Time To Do Away With the Numerous Ripple (XRP) Price Predictions?

Yaay!! Please do away with the price Predictions! ?

https://ethereumworldnews.com/is-it-time-to-do-away-with-the-numerous-ripple-xrp-price-predictions/

It is with the reality of the current market performance that it might be time to abandon all Ripple (XRP) price predictions completely.

Price predictions are good if the crypto-markets are in an upward trend. But with fears of regulation in the United States, South Korea, Russia, India and the rest of the globe, the reality is that many ‘big time’ investors are yet to embrace the crypto-markets completely. They are waiting for the regulatory stalemate to end so they can make an entry into crypto. Until then, any price predictions might disillusion any crypto HODLer who expects big things due to the constant bombardment on social media of promises of doubling or trippling their investments in a short amount of time.

One is tempted to quote that there is freedom of expression and everyone has the right to an opinion. But when the opinion involves personal finances, it is wise to first issue disclaimers that such price predictions are based on assumptions of a future we cannot tell. With time travel yet a reality, it can only be explored through popular Sci-fi cult classic movies such as Primer. This movie follows two engineers who accidentally discover time travel, only to use it to buy stocks in the past after seeing their performance in the future. It is a convoluted story that any physics enthusiast would love.

I am not capable of ignoring price prediction. Colorful graphs, zeros, youtube and shiny objects are a threat to my decision making process. I need someone like John and their blog to help understand how incompetant I am. Just like I need price predictions to help decide if I've make a good investment.

PS. I didn't even finish reading the article. Just like I didn't read any price predictions today.

The irony is that the article is about personal finances.

I also dislike the price predictions and virtually never read any of those threads.  However, if some anonymous person is going to offer me 100 XRP on the internets to make an XRP price prediction you can consider me Nostradamus.

Agreed to an extent.  I've already said that $589, $100, $50 are impossible by EOY.  $1.00 - $1.50 realistic, $3.00 - $5.00 possible, $10.00 a big stretch, but not out of the realm of possibility.

Having said that, Blockchain is the future and there's no way in hell it's going away, just like the Internet didn't.  With that coincides crypto - also not going away - most will go away but not all.  Of those that survive, if you could only pick a handful, you have to agree XRP is one of them.  I've mentioned on the forum before that I told my dad to buy AMZN when it was a split-adjusted $6.00, and was (as you mentioned) sure to say Caveat emptor.  He laughed at me, said the Internet was a joke, and never bought.  AMZN is $1751 right now.  He now laughs at me when I recommend crypto investments to him.  As long as I'm saying buyer beware, am I not doing the thoughtful/caring thing by recommending what I think will be a solid investment to friends, family, or even members on a forum?

To clarify, even though I have no issues with recommending that people buy XRP, particularly at these levels, I agree with you on disliking the price prediction threads.  The reasons I did what I did are:

1.) With me recently having found out about my health issues, I've become philanthropic.  I've been donating to non-profit organizations, etc.  I figure if I do die, I can't take it all with me.  My family laughs off crypto, and regardless they're all well-to-do and don't need any more money.  100 XRP may end up going to someone with a large stack whom doesn't need it.  It also could end up going to someone with a small stack or no stack at all - someone whom would really appreciate it.

2.) It builds interest into the asset.  Some people have come out of the woodwork to participate - some even posting on the forum for the first time, even though being registered here for a while (lurkers).  If it builds interest, and even if just one person decides to start buying XRP because now they actually own some (or more), then that's a great thing.

3.) To let me "weed out" those whom are ridiculous.  Say in the past someone has said $100 by EOY, but then when I do my next Giveaway Competition for EOY price I see that same person predict $1.50, I know to pay no attention to virtually anything that person has to say in the future.  There are users on this forum that I follow, users whose information and input are very helpful.  There are also users whom just are worthy of being ignored.  I don't know everyone, but this is a way for me to somewhat gauge things.

I like to know what people are thinking, get inside their heads a little.

Like @BarryMcHockenue I also look for consistency with posters. I don't agree with many on here with an outlook of $1-$2 EOY, but if you are consistent, at least I can take you seriously when you post.

I don't take those threads very seriously though.

We've seen hundreds of price predictions for EOY, 2019, and years beyond. These range from lows around $0.25 to highs around $589 USD and everything in between. Given enough predictions, it's statistically inevitable some of them will be correct, regardless of the method used to predict results.

Currently, there's only a loose correlation between price and positive & negative news, whale manipulation, hacks, and FOMO, etc, meaning it's a crap shoot to predict prices without huge error bars for EOY and other time frames.

I do, however, like the fundamentals of Ripple the company and XRP. But the volatility of the nascent cryptosphere suggests long term holding until things smooth out. At least for me.

I don't mind price predictions that have some real qualitative and/or quantitative reasoning behind them. But if people are serious about price prediction, they should create them with the target price on a specific date with error estimate qualifiers.

My 2 drops...

Yeah there isn't anything inherently bad about price prediction threads.  They just remove the focus around reality.  In your case since there was a wager involved there ended up being realistic price prediction analysis (plus the short time window).  I suspect a longer time frame repeat of the same offer you made would result in relatively realistic price predictions coupled with actual logical reasoning as to why on a particular date we'd see a particular price.  Again this only works when something is on the line where people compete for a sensible answer.
