engine44
I have some XRP listed on the XRP ledger. I have the keys. The XRP has never been on an exchange. I would like it to be on Bitstamp. I am setting up a Toast wallet so that I can access my XRP. I believe I need to extablish a gateway connection between Toast and my XRP on the XRP ledger. Is that correct? Thanks, Edited June 18, 2018 by engine44 delete
n2it
I think you need an account on bitstamp and an XRP wallet there. It will have a public key and a destination tag. Create your Toast wallet via the "Import" button. Follow the prompts (where you'll enter the secret key you have, a new PIN, etc.). After this process you should be able to see the XRP on the ledger associated with this wallet. I don't think you need a gateway connection to bitstamp in your Toast wallet. You can try to just send a few XRP to the bitstamp wallet address and the destination tag for your bitstamp XRP account. Worked for me. YMMV. Hope this helps. I keep getting diiferent answers to this problem. Many people said I couldn’t use Bitstamp. I needed something like Toast. It’s quite confusing. I will look at Bitstamp again. When you say use the “Import” button, where is this button located? So far, I can’t find any Import button on Toast. Thanks. n2it
Toast has a '+' symbol on its home page. Click it and you'll see a set of buttons: choose "Add Existing Address". Sorry I misled you with "Import" button. Follow the prompts as I listed before. Sorry again for saying this worked for me on bitstamp. Bitstamp hasn't verified my account yet, but I was able to transfer to Kraken and Gatehub. After Uphold came online I switched all my buying activity to Uphold. Highly recommend them if you're in the USA. FYI, many people have multiple wallets. The simplest case is to have the exchange wallet (on Uphold, Bitstamp, etc.) and a private wallet on their computer. The private wallet (like Toast) holds the bulk of their XRP and is filled by transferring XRP from exchange wallets to a private wallet. More advanced users also use hardware wallets (like the Nano) and/or paper wallets. You'll need to do some research on that to decide if it works for you.
