New Gatehub Accounts

Hi @enej,

I just went through about two dozen accounts activated by Gatehub in the last two days and it seems the vast majority of them have received the 50xrp then one minute later transferred the max (30xrp) to this address: rMzrsjzSNKdzo8Cdwai39gLZKF3r1dDFwN or this Poloniex address: rPVMhWBsfF9iMXYj3aAzJVkPDTFNSyWdKy.

Is somebody exploiting the Gatehub 50 xrp activation or is this testing? Curious if you can shed some light.:d_sunny:

As always thank you for supporting the XRP Chat community!

Seems like a waste of time to keep creating new gatehub accounts for 50 xrp, I'm sure they will find a way to stop and prevent if it is.

And here I was getting excited about all these new accounts being created

With some 1000 accounts he made 30K XRP ..... might have been worth the effort for a poor boy

Yeah i guess you're right, over the past 3 days 3300 wallets created, so if they were all exploits then would total 165,000 XRP. I'm pretty sure gatehub was only responsible for like 30 or 40 accounts the other day though, because I was looking at their wallet on bithomp, i can't speak for the past 24 hours though.

If Gatehub was only responsible for 30 or 40 out of 3000, then it's obviously not them. Don't think they would let something like that go un-noticed for 5 days.

In the past 24h gatehub has only activated a little over 100 accounts, so 1200 accounts have been activated elsewhere, i wouldn't call that gaming the system, but probably real users... look for money to follow these accounts and issued value to rise, looks like something is going on behind the scenes. Pretty sure this is an ATH for accounts created in one day, i was wrong there, we've had some really high counts for accounts created over the span of a few days, but the last time it was this high was around December 15th 2014 and we all know what followed that, an XRP Christmas party :) prior to that we had large amounts created summer / fall 2013 then again summer / fall 2014, 2015 was lower than average, but still had some surges in summer and fall...

Look for accounts to surge from now until the end of the year, hopefully value follows it, history says it will :)

We are aware of this since we started funding new accounts. That's why we only activate new accounts with verified telephone number. You can only use the same phone number on few accounts before our system will block it. Eventually every "attacker" runs out of free SMS service providers.

Additionally we only have a limited number of XRP in the issuing (hosted) wallet just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunately there is no perfect solution to this problem. We had to make some compromises if we wanted to have better experience.

Why don't you just do one activated account per same phone number? Simple check if there's an activated account on the number - if yes no funding/activation (has to come to XRPChat for instance)
