BarryM17
I've searched topics but I don't completely understand. I currently have Rippex Desktop Wallet, which if I've read correctly will still continue to work. However I'm not comfortable with the whole situation, and have decided to download Toast. Is this a good decision? Also something about importing my secret key into Toast will negate me having to put another 20 XRP into reserve, as the key ties me to the ledger, hence importing it will in effect just transfer over to toast, being that in the end I'll still only have a total of 20 XRP in reserve? In setting up my Toast wallet, I'm currently at the point as the below image shows. I'm assuming I don't want to "Generate New Address" but rather "Add Existing Address" and I've no clue what "Get a Vanity Address" is. There's no mention of importing a secret key, which from other posts I've read is what I need to do. I just don't want to screw this up & lose any or all of my XRP's. My goal is just to create the Toast wallet, transfer my XRP's to Toast from Rippex Desktop Wallet & do so without putting another 20 XRP in reserve. Credible advice will be greatly appreciated. Skippy
You add an existing address. The wallet app is only an interface which you can send money from your address. The reserve 20 XRP is tied to your address in the XRP ledger, not to any interface applications. You should keep your secret key as safe as possible and not import it all the time if you are not planning to send your XRP away. Since you like Toast wallet, via this tutorial you can make an "offline" transaction from an offline computer and your mobile phone without exposing your secret key to an online computer. So now I "think" I have my Toast wallet set up, (however I'm seeing the same balance in both my Toast wallet & Rippex Desktop Wallet). Does this mean I can use either one? I just assumed the entire balance would automatically transfer from Rippex to Toast. Sorry for being an idiot.
Skippy
Just now, BarryMcHockenue said: Sorry for being an idiot. No worries, I guess. Like I said, the wallet is just an interface to the XRP ledger. It is like a web browser if you tried to access your web bank. You see the same balance in your bank with Mozilla or Chrome, doesn't matter. You should read the New Members https://www.xrpchat.com/forum/8-new-members/ section, because the last thing you want is to lose your XRP so some silly mistake. Two ways of losing your XRP: You lose your private key Someone else finds your private key (hackers, viruses, real-life thieves) BarryM17
serletdm
Guys, I had a Rippex wallet with a good amount of XRP in it. Missed the deadline to transfer it out, went to my Mac and the Rippex App was just a "?" symbol. Downloaded Toast, put in the old Rippex secret key, address auto-populated, create the wallet and there was 0 XRP inside, said it was inactive. So I sent another 25 XRP from another location to the wallet, and that showed up fine, now that's still all that's in there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - D
FlyingFox
@serletdm - have you checked your account balance (and any transactions) independently using something like: https://bithomp.com/explorer/ Enter your public wallet address (not your secret) here and see what the balance is - and check for any transactions to help you track down what might have happened. Thanks - D I am not an expert and don’t know the Toast ecosystem, but what you described sounds like two different XRP addresses. Using bithomp look at the r address and see what your transactions and balance look like. Each wallet and also bithomp are all just asking the XRPLedger what it’s balance is.. so importing your existing into toast should just be identical. Perhaps @ToastWallet can advise. serletdm
There's only 1 Ripple Address (starting with an r), that's all I've ever had. I'm entering that Rippex address into bithomp and all it's showing me is the nonsense I've done to restore the wallet after Rippex (apparently stole my XRP) shutdown. I'm at a loss. Rippex didn't steal your XRP as they were never stored on the desktop app, your XRP are stored on the XRPLedger the wallet apps are just a frontend to said ledger, if you had XRP in a wallet and used Rippex to access it, it will still be on the Ledger and the associated private and public keys can be able to access it or import it to another Wallet app. I still use the windows Rippex desktop wallet and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, I'm not sure what wallet data file the Mac version creates but it might be worth looking in to if you can find it and import it to a working windows Rippex install, as you can select a wallet file to use when launching the app on windows. serletdm
Okay, I've come to the conclusion that the only way I am getting my hands on this XRP again is if I can login to Rippex again. The app is gone from my Mac and I can't find a download anywhere online. You said your windows Rippex desktop wallet still works? Do you have a download for that? I'll install it on another machine, login, send the XRP elsewhere and be done with this. Thanks.
