I use toast wallet, for now. But i prefer an airgapped wallet which is more safe than nano s. No need to connect for online. Airgapped > nano s

The nano s is airgapped... in fact it's ultimately even more securely airgapped than most roll-your-own airgapped wallet solutions. Problem is the airgapped computer inside a nano s is proprietary so you can't look in it and actually see what's going on. One of the reasons I'd prefer a Trezor over Ledger solutions.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a message and I'll explain as best I can. If you don't have any specifics and just don't understand what it's doing or why you'd want to use it either then I can try to explain that as well. Really a waste to have one and not use it; it will be much safer than leaving them on an exchange :)

thanks, i will definitely get back with you. its been several months since i last tried so i dont remember what the error code was. but i wil try again and let you know.

watch the videos 2x 3x. then go for it.. setup your ledger nano s. In fact ledger nano website also has a getting started video. Use that one.. follow along. pause video until your ready for next step... Don't be afraid, once it's initialized, you won't break anything.

On your start transfer, do like 30 xrps. Once it hits your wallet presto!  You did it. next transmit a bigger batch of xrps.

i appreciate your advise. i noticed i downloaded the ripple wallet 6 times, i dont know how so i just deleted them all. i got to the copy and paste the address part so i thought i was good..  then

i was prompted to deactivate  my global settings lock so i tried to do that and it wants my password , i dont know what it was . by then the address was gone. then paranoia set in. and yep im afraid now. i have a millennial techy friend who said he would help and i agreed to give him all the access to my acct but he was kinda flipped out when i told him how many xrp i had.

he told me about ripple back  in november and i sold everything i had and went on a buying spree. im not tech savvy but i can see an opportunity  when one shows up. ty again

Let me understand, you got pass the hardware activation, create pass phrase and pin process? If yes, the ledger hardware is ready and your need to setup the desktop ripple wallet application. But so far have no coins moved over.

Alternatively,  back to to review website's Getting Started Video, see how far along you've gotten. Take notes, then try to recall which steps you did not complete in the initial setup.  As a final way to recover (ie start over) contact Ledger customer support, find out the steps to recover your nano device. I assume you have the recovery phrase written down in a safe place.

Worst case you can split up your XRPs across multiple exchanges, thus all your eggs are not in one basket. I'm sure you've done this right?

i have not split them up but that is an excellent idea. im feeling a little more confident now, just from you saying its not scary" so im going to give it a go again.

Stay with the bigger exchanges. Again, after you sign up on exchanges.. with your initial transfer do a tiny bit (like 30 xrp). Verify it went thru. Then you can go for bigger xrp batch.  Since you are caring for a large pot of Srp's,  consider buying another Ledger nano or equivalent wallet. Do the initialize slowly, step by step.. don't rush. Point is, you really want to save them offline.  You can recover the existing Ledger nano at a later time.

Yes, like this weekend or your first day off. Get good nite sleep, wake up and go for it. You are talking about big amounts sitting in one place. Split them up asap.

They are thief - dont keep it on there

Can you elaborate? ...in what specific ways are they (Gatehub) a thief?

I have a Gatehub account. But I have a Ripple Wallet there, not a wallet hosted by Gatehub.

Are my XRPs safe?

Thanks

I don't think Gatehub are thieves. That said, using a wallet hosted by an exchange (or anything you dont' control) is almost always a bad idea.

As I have a "Ripple Wallet" and not a Gatehub-hosted Wallet, it has been explained to me that my XRPs are not actually on the exchange but on the ledger ....to be totally honest, I'm not sure if I fully understand the distinctions

I'm unfortunately not "high-tech" enough to be conversant in all this :(

Am I getting this right?

Thanks
