Does Ledger Nano S work?

I currently have my XRP in a wallet (with Google Authenticator for added security) but want my holdings to be hack proof (or as close to hack proof as I can get).  Am considering getting Ledger Nano S but there are many Amazon reviews saying either it doesn’t work or that they received it with the tamper proof seal removed.

Anyone have advice on this?

There is no proof seal, The ledger nano s comes with a small info-card inside stating .

"Did you notice? Ledger Nano S doesn't come with a seal, because each Ledger Auto-configures to check for tampering at startup" It only comes with a full seal "Plastic around the box"

Hardware wallets and cold wallets are safest way to store XRP and other coins. That being said Hardware wallets allow the added advantage to be mobile with your coins at the same time. i.e traveling, or non using your home device temporarily.

The Ledger Nano S has so far served me very well, except for the once in a while delay in loading my funds "That's an in desktop-app issue"Just save the recovery sheet safely offline away from the device and use a strong security pin, 2FA is overkill... but well its worth it if you feel safer.

Order directly from the Ledger website, Amazon wouldn't be the best bet, and i would not feel comfortable ordering from Amazon if i was you.

Do NOT buy from Amazon. My buddy did, and when I went to set it up for him - it felt as though it had been tampered with. Buy directly from Ledger.

Is there a way to extract the private key for the Ripple address out of the Nano Ledger S?

I consider to store my XRP also on the Nano Ledger S.  But there seems to be no possibilty to extract the private key.

If sometime in the future Nano goes out of business there might be the possibilty that we cannot access our XRP then?

They write on their homepage, that the dektop app is dependend on their servers...

What if Ledger goes out of business?

If Ledger shuts down all its activities, the Ledger Chrome app will most probably stop to function as our API servers would be stopped. However, this would only be an inconvenience, as your bitcoins would stay completely safe.

With your recovery sheet, and your 24 words, you can any time restore your balance to another BIP39 compatible wallet.

So you can also import it to for example a Trezor wallet.

Make sure you keep you 24words safe!

Link is here: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/support/bip39-standalone.html

For the love of god don't buy hardware wallets on eBay or Amazon or anyone who isn't the manufacturer.

Yes the wallet works. Buy it from Ledger's website.

Yes, bought it from manufacturer.  I went to Amazon solely for the reviews - which I take with a grain of salt anyhow.
