Transfer XRP from Bitstamp to Nano S

Recommended Posts

I will be able to figure it out eventually, but am having some difficulty understand how to transfer from Bitstamp to XRP. Ive read a number of posts here stating the Nano does not have to be hooked up to the internet, yet no one has explained how this is possible. I know I need to download the Chrome extension, set up the Nano, make the 24 word seed, etc etc. But when actually ready to transfer, do I log into Bitstamp first to start the process?

Thanks

@XRPcalling you will also need to download the ripple ledger wallet application.

1. download the ledger manager chrome extension
2. plug in nano and enter the passcode
3. once the ledger manager starts up download the ripple application
4. close ledger manager, unplug nano
5. open ripple ledger application
6. plug in the nano and enter passcode
7. the ripple wallet should then open. you will then be able to find you addresses and info needed to send or receive XRP

if you experience any problems such as the ledger manager not registering that you have plug in the device
1. make sure you don't have the ripple ledger app or any other ledger app open
2. disconnect and close everything then restart process by opening the chrome app and plugging in the nano

So..

#1 is on the computer/laptop

#3 The ripple application downloads onto the Nano

#4 I dont understand why I unplug the nano if i plug it back in the next step

#5 is the Chrome application?

#7 is the 'ripple wallet' on the Chrome extension or on the Nano, where I see this address?

Thank you!

Plenty of YouTube videos on how to do this.  Also the nano website has directions

Yes i know. Ive looked at them all. There must be one variable I am simply not understanding which is hindering me from setting it up.

Plus, every video seems to omit one important step either because the person coughs at the exact moment they say it, or the camera shakes right when I need to see it

if you look on the ledger site it has a couple things to download. the "Ledger Manager" which is the chrome extension is where you are able to download the applications that go on the physical device. for instance, i just got my nano s and it came with BTC, ETH, FIDO U2F and settings. if you want any of the additional coins the nano offers you have to download the application or if you want to remove a coin application off the of the nano you use the "Ledger Manager". after you download the application you will see if appear on the device

if you want to actually access the wallet to send or receive you have to download the "Ripple Ledger Wallet" which is a desktop application, not chrome extension. If you wanted to use BTC, ETH, VTC, Stellar etc you would have to download their "**** Ledger Wallet" desktop application.

You unplug the nano because when you open the "Ledger Manager" or "Ripple Ledger Wallet" you have to first enter your passcode for it to be recognized. it isn't like you enter your passcode once and unlocked the device to be used across your computer. consider it a safety feature

You will see your address in the respective "**** Ledger Wallet" software application, NOT the ledger manager.

It would be amazing if someone were to make an exact step by step guide from beginning to end on how to transfer from Bitstamp to XRP.

Like i said, there are many out there on Youtube, but each of them take 'common sense shortcuts' where the speaker in the video says things such as, "..so ya.. you know what i mean.. next step."

This might help, it helped me a lot although they use Binance in the example. https://buyingripple.com/

"Ledger Wallet Ripple" is not a chrome app, it's a standalone native app. An icon will be created on windows once you've successfully installed it using ledger manager. Simply double click the icon to run the app with waiting status, then plug-in your nano s, input pin, then choose ripple, your ripple wallet will be automatically opened in the "Ledger Wallet Ripple" app. Transfer XRP from an exchange to your nano S using your ripple wallet public key, no need to input destination tag.

My only other question is, isnt the Chrome App a possible trojan horse? Ive heard even if our home computer has a virus, it would not affect the Nano, but utilizing an App from Chrome sounds like the one link in the chain. Does the Ledger team constantly put out new versions/ check for errors / check for vulnerabilities with the chrome app?

Correct me if i am wrong.

i think the icon is only created once you download from here https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps/ripple
you can add any of the coins the ledger offers through the ledger manager chrome extension, but you can't access to use it as a wallet without the wallet apps https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps
