With a widespread shutdown or performance issues of all major European and US based exchanges I suspect a attack- most likely DDOS.

Yes. Like an attack on the Crypto Universe. But one wonders . . . who is the beneficiary in this? Someone must be behind it all.
And I think that it is not a coincidence that it started when the fall began.
Just throwing out a baite here, is it the BTC, BCH, BTG players who are conducting this?
The War is about to begin?

I am not that worried, had 1k of XRP there. Was just about to put a lot of fiats in there after this great fall. And PUFF, the site was gone. :beach:
I am sure they will fix the problems, and I am sure that my 1k XRP will still be there, when it is done.

As I said, fresh from Bitstamp. And all my XRP´s are there. In Bitstamp I trust.

My guess is that DDOSing multiple exchanges is a circuit breaker of sorts developed ad hoc by a loose group with an interest in keeping markets from crashing. Such an attack essentially will function similarly as the safety mechanisms in the stockmarket. They prevent panic selling by shutting down all trading in the hopes that people regain their sanity and cooler heads prevail. I hate to put it in these terms, but in this view it is almost a public service they are performing, albeit done for self-serving interests - In my experience however, these two are far from mutually exclusive.

Totally agree - especially as this is still the Wild West. I look forward to seeing what the Far East makes of all of this when they wake up in the next few minutes

Whats up?

I didn't know we had any Bitstamp reps with accounts here?

Look legit from the account page - maybe they'll comment.

Yeah, if it's multiple exchanges especially.  The whole "DDOS" thing kind of surprises me in this day and age though.  I've been wondering lately if large mining operations can easily cause this by running software to direct their hashing power to something nefarious like this.

I would never accuse anybody with no evidence, but all that computing power in the hands of just a few individuals.... :JC_thinking:
