Do you really lose XRP Deposits to Bitfinex without a tag?

I rushed a transfer of XRP from Bitstamp to Bitfinex today and forget to put the full Bitfinex tag in the withdrawal page on the Bitstamp website. Is Bitfinex correct to say that, even with the transaction ID, I have really lost my XRP? If so, where are they?

The problem is, that exchanges who use the DT, usually have a single Ripple wallet, and their system needs to know who sent the xrp... if you don't use the DT, their system doesn't know who sent it. They still get the xrp though.

They are BS'ing you. If you sent those XRP to correct address, they did recieve it and are in possession of it. They should credit you your XRP!

Edit: They should credit you after finding out which tag you should have specified

Yep. I see what's happened. Some lucky soul picked a fair chunk of free XRP from me. I just hope it's some millionaire whale who doesn't need them and that I can get them back! :)

The problem is what to send them as a proof that your account (and someone else's) needs to be credited. Everyone can claim XRPs sent without destination tag are theirs.

If they are from an address (hopefully not a pool wallet on another exchange) that you have used before then your case is quite strong and I would hope for a good result.

Please return with the outcome so others will benefit from your experience.

same issue here :-(

contacted support, got a ticket but no answer yet. Did you end-up having your deposit done ?

This person got theirs back...   Took 48hours.   Good result.

+1

I made some noob errors in depositing funds with Bitstamp and other exchanges but only Bitstamp seemed to have any support staff to look into it and solve the problem (which involved locating my deposits in their central wallet and putting those funds on my trading account - it took 48 hours). I'm still waiting for Bitfinex to sort it out 9 days later.

Edit:.   Oops that was to Bitstamp not from them...   Doesn't look as promising then...   I'm sorry.
