How can I get into Wallet?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1.4.0-rc3 XRP chat wallet.  It has an active account with address and private key and password.  I have sent my Ripple to it.  It no longer says my password is correct. How can I get into the wallet to transfer my coins to my Nano-S wallet?   Can I recreate the same wallet with the keys and access the coins?

Thanks

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.  I'm certainly not a Ripple or a security expert.  But I can make a suggestion for you and perhaps others to consider and/or chime in on....

I am starting to trust TheWorldExchange.net.  It is a JavaScript client for the Ripple api's.  If you are moving out of your existing wallet there is very little risk to entering the key to that site to login which will allow you to transfer to the new hardware wallet.

Obviously as with all XRP transfers it's wise to use cut and paste and try a small transaction first.  If it works paste again and do the rest of it.  Remember that you won't be able to transfer the last 20 XRP out of the wallet because of the ripple nets wallet keeping fee.  Good luck to you no matter what path you choose.

  • Thanks so much for trying..... my wallet has 2 set of information.   The first is the wallet account... where it is stored.. that is written in and I can't change it.... the second (the only thing I can change.... is the spot for the password...  It will not open since I dont have the password... I have tried to put in the private key and the address key... but nothing happens since it is not the password....   I don't know how to somehow get the account to reset the password..... I have all the keys ..... but it wont take the passwords that I know......How can I get to inside my account to let me transfer the coins?   I can view what is there Ripple explorer.. but I cant get into the account but only look at it...

Your welcome.   But I think you misunderstand....   all you need to operate a ripple wallet is the secret key.  The rest is merely scaffolding.

if you are not planning on keeping funds in the old Ripple Wallet then if you did as I suggest you would have access to your funds....  they are not actually in the wallet software,  they are out on RippleNet stored in the distributed ledger.

If you have the secret key (it starts with a s) then you can ignore the old software altogether and just move the funds as I suggested.

Even when you transfer the XRP to the nano...  they won't actually be in the nano.  The XRP live on, and never ever leave, the Ripple Consesnus Ledger.  To own and operate on them you need a secret key...  that is the wallet heart.

Your nano will now just have its own secret key (different from your earlier one), and its own corresponding ripple address.   When you move funds into the nano you simply are telling the RCL that these particular XRP are now going to be at that particular Ripple address.  You are able to move them only because you cryptographically sign the moving transaction with the originating wallets secret key. (That bit of work will be done for you by the JavaScript calls to Ripple API's at TheWorldEchange.net which it will be able to do since you entered your secret key to the site.)

So the RCL will then record those XRP as being at the Nanos' address.

The old wallet and it's secret key no longer have any sway on those XRP....   only the new nano secret key can authorise any movement out of the nano wallet ripple address.

I hope I didn't just make things worse with jumbo jumbo...   :)

Thanks again.... I am understanding more... It does say when I made my wallet that I could  have access to the coins if I lost the password as long as I had the secrete key.....see below... I thought that meant you could open the wallet another way... Are you saying the only way to get the coins is with the secret key and use The World Exchange.net?   I will do it as soon as I can get my Nano-S Ripple wallet to open.... now it is causing me grief....

My snipped file wont attach....

Nah it's not the only way...  Plenty of other options.  I suggested it because it is simply a website...  doesn't need installing like another wallet would, doesn't need account and verification like importing into Gaethub would, etc.

The secret key is literally the key to your funds.  You could install nearly any other wallet and import the key and you would be a goer.  The wallet you already have should work but there seem to be issues with it.  If the Nano has the option to import the secret key then that would be your best option.  I don't have one but I'm led to believe it can't import the secret...  I could be wrong and that's the best option if it can be done.  Have a look at the doco.   It will be something like 'Importing an existing wallet' or suchlike.

On reflection it might be that your existing wallet can import the secret key over top of itself....   That might bypass your issues...  worth looking into I think....  That's just a guess though.

Rest assured though that if you have your secret key you will be able to get your XRP.

The problem is I  dont know where the command is to start a new wallet and import the secret key..... I can start an empty one... but when ou create a wallet it also gives you a new secret key... Where do I import it?  Mercury said in a post before that you could import the secret key.. I cant find how to do that...
