I copied my address, but when I pasted, it was another address

There is a strange problem happening on my PC.

I copied my Poloniex wallet address: 1HDn....H4Jb7 (I have to type it now instead of pasting)

But then I pasted, it turned to be : 1HY6v4N6Rd4FggMpYgjKq7dNqgFVUFUge7

(some starting and ending characters look the similar but the middle is totally different).

It will not happens for other copy and paste content, but only with wallet address (any coin)

Why can this happen ?

My PC is running an expensive anti-virus software and this PC is only for my cryptocoin trading. I am really surprised !

 

Could you give me some hints or ideas ? Thank you very much.

Try pasting in different programs.

Take it offline and kill certain programs and try.

If the target address is totally unknown for you it's probably malware running on your computer, which monitors your clipboard and changes the address.
Do not use the computer anymore for crypto trading until it's properly cleaned/reinstalled.

If you ever had raw secret keys in your clipboard / on your computer (of any blockchain, not only xrp ledger) assume those are stolen too and use another clean computer to transfer funds to a new account.

These are the risks of crypto's and that is (in my opinion) why we need banks for example who offer very secure and insured access to your cryptomoney.

Does it also happen to other addresses and on other sites? Can you try to copy for example this address: rG1icQptiLK2ntLH4zT76kKfR1PzvMtFjd ?

If you (or someone you know) are technical enough to identify the malware file (perhaps with the use of sysinternals process monitor / process explorer) you might want to contact your antivirus company, I assume they are interested in identifying new risks.

edwin90 brings up good points. Maybe check out address in ripple ledger to see if corresponding wallet contains ripples. Still you could be 'attacked' by empty wallet address that hasn't had any deposits sent to it.

Also, you could try a different virus scanner without risking loss or interference from malware. 

You could find a clean computer, create a live linux usb, boot linux into memory on the infected computer, install clamav, update clamav virus database and scan the infected partition/volume this way, and then quarantine the infected files, and search the infected files online to identify what kind of harm they do...you can even submit the reported files clamav finds to your virus scanner support team from the live usb operating system without entering your infected operating system from within to retrieve the infected file(s).
