  5. SendFriend, the next-generation remittance service and currently, the smartest way to send money to the Philippines, today announced it has raised $1.7M in total capital to better enable Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to securely transfer USD to PHP at the lowest rate available. The funding comes from MIT Media Lab, Barclays, the Mastercard Foundation, Ripple, Techstars, Mahindra Finance, 2020 Ventures, and 8 Decimal Capital. More than $45 billion in fees on remittance services, which often take 3-5 days, was spent last year by the millions of migrants in the U.S. who send home more than $650 billion in remittances. SendFriend will launch as the only option for OFWs to securely and reliably send money internationally with fees that are 65% lower than the industry average as it replaces the frictions and fees of the banking system with one seamless, ultra low cost experience to send money globally. Through a partnership with blockchain company Ripple, SendFriend leverages xRapid to create a seamless money transfer experience. XRP is used as a liquidity vehicle for cross-border payments, enabling SendFriend to circumvent the corresponding banking system and convert USD to XRP to PHP in a matter of seconds. https://www.marketwatch.com/press-release/sendfriend-next-generation-remittance-company-announces-17m-in-capital-from-8-decimal-capital-techstars-2020-ventures-barclays-mit-media-lab-2019-02-11?siteid=nbkh

"However, CZ also claimed that xRapid is not a priority for the crypto exchange at the moment, clarifying that there is “nothing going on right now” for the exchange with xRapid, stating: “We’re focused on launching more features right now, so we are working with a number of other partners. With xRapid, there’s nothing going on right now, but in the future we’ll definitely want to add them as a partner.”

  12. After the discussion within the thread "The impossibility of liquidity in xrp" went on I was asked the following: In the last several hours I created a document that hopefully gives a clearer overview of the cross-border settlement process with the use of XRP and the corresponding balance sheet operations as I understood it: https://de.scribd.com/document/396839492/Xrp-Balance-Sheet-Operations-v1-0 Please do not hesitate to correct me if I have made false assumptions or if you discover any other critical points as I do neither work at Ripple or at any bank that is implementing or using xRapid. The document merely reflects my current gaps in knowledge. 9th of January, 2019: updated to v1.4

  17. I now class myself as a vaguely experienced hodler. Usually I hide behind other people's threads and comment from time to time. Not for a while though - what's the point in reading stuff which is mainly downbeat and negative? I have experienced a load of emotions since I came on board in 2017, but I've never waivered from my belief that XRP will become a success. If it doesn't then I am prepared to take a 100% loss. There's no doubt that this recent pump has brought a load of new investors on board in anticipation of Xrapid going live and Swell's potential announcements. There will be lots of positive news at Swell. However, the whales are circling and the likehood short term is the price dips considerably unless there's an announcement that Xrapid has released. Those who have ridden the XRP train for the last 2 weeks, you have until Sunday to disembark. Those with cojones will be rewarded substantially given time. Mine have "SWELLED" considerably since last year.
  18. New member, forgive me if the post format isn't perfect. Came here from DAI on youtube. I'm invested in XRP like most, if not all of you. In my research, I've come to the conclusion that XRP is going to the metaphorical 'moon' that everyone talks about. Here's why: Ripple has created a currency that destroys .00001 of itself (10 drops) with every transaction. (https://developers.ripple.com/transaction-cost.html) I don't remember which Ripple exec talked about it (not BG or Schwartz), but the potential transaction per second of Ripple is quite large, upwards of 500 billion - 1 trillion per second. I think that's a bit much, so I factored it to 1 billion/second. Don't remember which article it was, but I'm trying to find it. When you do the math, that's a minimum of 864 million ripple being burned every day, conservatively. Multiply that by 500 and its just shy of 500 billion xrp per day. Factor in Apple's integration with XRP, Amazon's likely partnership, 5-25% of SWIFT integration within three years, retail adoption on a global scale, and finally, FOMO. When emotional wall street investors start getting phone calls from their clients, the average uneducated investor will be priced out. Too late. With the Cobalt update and the Transcendence upgrade to the ledger, Ripple's transaction speed appears to be headed toward 1 sec. That speed is phenomenal. I don't think it'll be at the end of this year when we see it. Analysts have said that the global markets look safe through the middle of 2019, and SEC regulators appear behind the ball when it comes to getting things in place. Thanks to Malta and other crypto havens, they have no choice but to act. Institutional investors are on board, but within three years, probably after the 2020 election, is when I see XRP taking off. Now that I think of it, it might have been Stefan Thomas on twitter (Coil founder) who mentioned the transaction speed/second. I may be wayyyyyy off on that Tx/sec, but with Ripple's scalability, anything seems possible. They've created a perpetual demand-creation machine that is aimed squarely at global domination. Their aim seems true. $10,000 XRP. Thanks for reading.

  21. Today, we’re pleased to announce Bittrex will act as the preferred digital asset exchange for xRapid transactions that move through U.S. Dollars. In addition, Bitso and Coins.ph will be preferred for Mexican Pesos and Philippine Pesos, respectively. Here’s what an xRapid payment flow will look like from the U.S. to Mexico: 1. A financial institution, that has an account with Bittrex, initiates a payment in U.S. dollars via xRapid which is instantly converted into XRP on Bittrex. 2. The payment amount in XRP is settled over the XRP Ledger. 3. Bitso - through its Mexican Peso liquidity pool - instantly converts the XRP into fiat, which is then settled into a destination bank account. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20180816005126/en/

  24. I was just brainstorming, but i figure I'd throw it out here for some more experienced people to bring some clarity to. I'm sure i'm jumping the gun here, as RippleNet would likely have to penetrate much further than it has currently, but I figured why not open it up to discussion. I was thinking about creating a word press plugin to be able to allow a website to receive payments in any currency they'd prefer, and allow a customer to pay in their native currency. I'm thinking I could write a script to leverage XRapid and crypto exchange, where basically the payment flow would be 'website click > XRapid > crypto Exchange > XRapid > deposit account' I don't know if I understand XVia well enough, but I don't think it has XRP capability, though it almost seems better suited for this kind of use case? I guess I have a few question. 1. Which Ripple Product would be best suited for a solution here? 2. Is that product able to be leveraged with a scripting language (python, perl, bash, etc..) 3. Does the bank of deposit need to be available on RippleNet (I assume this is true) 4. Does anything like this already exist?
  25. ***this is speculation*** In the wake of AliPay's announcement of launching a cross-border remittance service powered by blockchain technology, a closer inspection of the partnerships reveals several layers of Ripple associates. The cross-border remittance services into the Philippines will be offered by in a collaboration between GCash, AliPay, and Standard Chartered. With further details on Standard Chartered's involvement, https://www.pymnts.com/news/cross-border-commerce/2018/alipay-gcash-blockchain-cross-border-remittance-philippines/ Standard Chartered is currently a RippleNet adopter, primarily using it for cross-border payments between India and Singapore. The bank has also broadcasted it's plans on extending it's utilization of RippleNet to five other countries/pairs this year. https://www.finextra.com/newsarticle/32048/standard-chartered-to-extend-use-of-ripplenet-to-more-countries Standard Chartered acting as the settlement bank by offering it's infrastructure to both AliPay and GCash for remittance services, falls into Winters statement of expanding it's capabilities to other currency pairs with the Philippine Piso (PHP), the Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), and the Chinese Yaun/renminbi (CNY) being the suspects. GCash in itself also has an abundance of service and associate overlaps with Ripple. Currently GCash and it's services such as GCASH REMIT into the Philippines is consisted of SoftBank Payments and Globe Telecom. https://www.gcash.jp/?lg=e SBI Holdings' business relationship with SoftBank has been under speculation since SBI's involvement with Ripple but Globe Telecom can reveal other intentions of GCash. GCash is not the only notable subsidiary of Globe Telecom, Mynt is another subsidiary of Globe Telecom's financial technology arm that includes Ayala Corp and Ant Financial(AliPay/Alibaba). https://www.mynt.xyz/about-us/ The significance of Mynt pertains to an announcement this past March. Globe Telecom with Ayala Corp and Ant Financial thru Mynt, partnered with MoneyGram to provide remittance services into the Philippines to smartphone users for their GCash mobile wallets. http://news.abs-cbn.com/business/tech-biz/03/08/18/globe-fintech-arm-moneygram-launch-smartphone-based-remittance-service MoneyGram is well known in the Ripple community for it's involvement in trialing xRapid for a pilot which utilizes the XRP Ledger (XRP) for cross-border payments. http://ir.moneygram.com/news-releases/news-release-details/ripple-and-moneygram-partner-modernize-payments As of now, we publicly know that Mynt (Globe Telecom, Ayala Corp, and Ant Financial) partnered with MoneyGram to improve remittance services into the Philippines for GCash mobile wallet users. MoneyGram states that it's intention on piloting XRP this past January was because the digital asset offered negligible transaction fees and because the average transaction time involving XRP is 2-3 seconds. Interesting enough, this new remittance service provided by both Alibaba and GCash involves HKD and PHP. And the transaction time publicly shared took only 3 seconds... After Alibaba's failure to acquire MoneyGram this past January (same time as MoneyGram's announcement of it's xRapid pilot), Alibaba was adamant that they would still collaborate with MoneyGram to develop remittance and digital payments to several countries including the Philippines........ https://www.reuters.com/article/us-moneygram-intl-m-a-ant-financial/u-s-blocks-moneygram-sale-to-chinas-ant-financial-on-national-security-concerns-idUSKBN1ER1R7 Very interesting times indeed!
