This is a bad day for the W3C: it's the day it publishes a standard designed to control, rather than empower, web users. https://boingboing.net/2017/09/18/antifeatures-for-all.html/amp https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20170918/16322838234/eff-resigns-w3c-after-drm-html-is-approved-secret-vote.shtml

My latest blog entry talks about the W3C working group for payment requests, along with some interesting XRP wallet statistics and SWELL. There's been some crypto buzz around the "payment request" standard for browsers; I discuss this a bit and then talk about some XRP wallet statistics recently published by some XRP developers on Twitter; I think the numbers are fascinating. Let me know what you think, and please feel free to share my blog on other media. http://www.level39.co/events/interledger-protocol-workshop After a hugely successful inaugral workshop in San Francisco the community is meeting again, but this time in Europe, at the heart of fintech innovation, London. Spend the morning with the Interledger community who will be presenting the latest protocol specifications, showing off new and exciting uses for Interledger and discussing the roadmap ahead for the evolution of the protocol. Do you have a ledger that you'd like to ILP-enable, or a product that needs a more efficient way to make or receive payments? After lunch, bring your laptops, because after demonstrating the latest reference code the core contributors will be hands on to help us spend the rest of the day hacking new ILP-based prototypes and alternative implementations.

Anyone interested in joining the Interledger Payments Community group? I joined. https://www.w3.org/community/interledger/2015/10/09/a-web-of-ledgers/ The community groupThere is a lot of work to be done in order to make the Interledger idea a reality. We believe that we can succeed only if we bring together a wide variety of stakeholders. Aside from the obvious parallels between existing Web protocols and ILP, we believe that the W3C through its lightweight open processes has uniquely proven to be a standards body that is very accessible for individuals while still being able to interface with the industries its work affects. We hope that we were able to give you a sense of the magnitude of the change that the financial industry is currently undergoing. If you would like to be a part of that change, please join the Interledger Payments Community Group and help us to develop the standards that ledgers around the world can adopt to enable ILP.
