  1. fyi : Lawsuit against Tether and Bitfinex for manipulating cryptomarket. No surprise, but at least there is some progress. You can read the details about it here: https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/16298999/leibowitz-v-ifinex-inc/ ...and there are many tweets posted regarding this topic
  2. All of a sudden, some 250m USDT just appeared on the markets. You know what it means.
  3. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cryptocurrency-tether-used-boost-bitcoin-191710239.html Nothing we all probably don't already know, but it's interesting that the concerns around manipulation is definitely being studied and simulated at an academic level.

  5. A bit dated but couldn't find this at XRPChat so just for archival and those interested; At 19 february 2018 two Dutch parliamentarians asked formal questions about Tether to the Dutch Minister of Finance (Hoekstra). Reason for this are concerns about the Dutch ING bank who has Tether as their customer while there is an article that Tether might be involved with billions fraud. Initial questions here by SP parliamentarian: https://www.tweedekamer.nl/kamerstukken/kamervragen/detail?id=2018D05812 Above questions had addons by PvdA parliamentarian here: https://www.tweedekamer.nl/kamerstukken/kamervragen/detail?id=2018Z02856&did=2018D05823 The answers from Dutch minister of Finance (20 march 2018) at the SP parliamentarian: https://www.tweedekamer.nl/kamerstukken/kamervragen/detail?id=2018Z02844&did=2018D20427 Answers at PvdA parliamentarian: https://www.tweedekamer.nl/kamerstukken/kamervragen/detail?id=2018Z02856&did=2018D20428 Google translate of the answers to SP parliamentarian: Translation answers PvdA parliamentarian:
  6. Does anyone else have any more information regarding Tether coming down? I cant find much online and its pretty quiet out there. I am still waiting for a possible crash in the market to buy back in at. That is looking less likely each day Tether lives.
  7. https://twitter.com/bitfinexed his account got account suspended... https://www.reddit.com/r/Buttcoin/comments/7vv1gc/after_failing_to_spam_my_twitter_with_400000_fake/ reddit discussion - "After Failing to spam my Twitter with 400,000 fake followers, Bitfinex hires bots to mass-report my tweets and accounts." hmmmm!
  8. If it turns out that tether messed up with their integrity, it illustrates that printable money has gigantic risks, which actually also accounts to an extend to fiat money. It's of course what crypto tries to counter in the first place, and therefor kind of stupid that tether was given such a position by exchanges without proper audits. But there is an answer, or actually two: - crypto owners should change their tethers into crypto. People should do that before tether crashes (!) if the SEC discovers major issues. After that tether could become worthless and you will not be able to sell them anymore. In a way it could actually serve the market, as that's what crypto is for: to hold it and use it for payments or as a TRUSTABLE bridge asset, not to keep it in something like tether. - Ripple could push big time on getting the xrpledger to be used as decentralized exhange by incentifying parties to inplement issuances (as described earlier in one of @Hodor's blogs. That way people have ultimate freedom to exchange everything without centralised vulnerabilities, and could have the whole cryptomarket benefit. The xrp-ledger is the only one with the right tech, capacity and speed to serve this. @nikb , @JoelKatz, @TiffanyHayden, @Hodor, @TplusZero , everybody, what do you think? I think it could save crypto, and actually turn the current setbacks into major leaps forward. But maybe I'm overlooking something here.
  9. Hello, I am new to this forum, so let me introduce myself: UK based & I am an XRP holder since around Aug '17. I have always been wary of the USDT situation since my involvement with the CC market and at risk of sounding completely stupid on my first post, here goes... One thing that puzzles me is how USDT managed to stay so closely pegged to $1 USD. This may be a silly question with a simple answer; but if USDT is in fact a 'cryptocurrency' why is it not susceptible to the price volatility like all the others? How does it have almost no reaction to buying and selling pressure? To be honest I have never tired to buy or sell USDT, so I have no experience. Thanks in advance for not ripping me if this answer is something silly .

  11. ...that the subpoena handed to Tether was successfully kept under wraps with ZERO LEAKS since Dec 2017, only to suddenly appear as an issue now? Methinks some persons did a very good job of hiding this info until an opportune moment when it could be used to drive crypto prices even lower. (Perhaps with the recent threats of a breakout and BTC as well as prominent altcoins testing resistance levels...blahblah TA stuff.. there may have been reason to believe that was the "true bottom," and there would be no way to buy in lower... Unless you were to turn HODLers into "weak hands" with a salacious bit of news that everyone knew was coming anyway... Tether gets subpoena'd). Plus, I question the true value of a subpoena ordered by a US agency to a company that's based overseas... Anyway, random musings and such. Looking for some input from more seasoned veterans, if any care to share their thoughts. Cheers!
  12. As most of you probably have read by now, Tether is becoming a scary situation. There is speculation that they have been printing counterfeit money to the tune of 2 billion dollars, and injecting it into the market to inflate prices. That 2 billion dollars is also speculated to have inflated BTC 50-80% because in reality only $10 billion of fiat has been invested into the crypto market to date. Because of this, some articles have come out to say that when Tether collapses, BTC will retreat back around $1000 and the rest of the market will come with it. I have been losing sleep at night lately because I honestly believe this to be true. The numbers add up, and USDT is really bad news. But I also had a thought this morning that put me at ease: It doesn't matter... Cryptocurrency is officially out of the bag, and it is becoming easier and easier for investors to get involved. If there has only been $10 billion invested in crypto to date, and even if $2 billion of that was Tether's funny money, that $2 billion isn't going to matter when $100 billion has been invested. Even a couple small hedge funds getting involved could easily pump billions of dollars of real inflow into the market. Now think about when Goldman Sachs opens their crypto trading desk. Robinhood alone has a cryptocurrency waiting list 800,000+ long, and they contain a tiny fraction of the investors in the US alone! I can see the amount of money being invested in crypto this year alone easily being in the hundreds of billions as the barrier to entry becomes equal to that of the stock market. And oh yeah, this is a global market. Japanese, Koreans, Russians, Germans, Brazilians, Americans; We are all in the same market and there is a ton of money out there. Bubbles burst, and people are going to lose a lot of money when our crypto bubble pops. But like the Dot Com bubble in 2000, plenty of companies will survive and thrive. The NASDAQ didn't go anywhere. Neither did Apple, Amazon, Google, Paypal, or Microsoft. Innovators, companies with a clear focus, and companies with great teams will rise from the ashes stronger than ever, and we fit all of those categories perfectly. So when Tether takes a sh*t and everyone on reddit and xrpchat is saying that crypto is done forever, just quietly accumulate and hodl. The market is going to come back stronger and XRP will look like a very attractive investment as it will have real institutional uses and partnerships. Cheers
  13. What if bitfinex wanted the market to go down and that’s why they won’t publicly show they have the assets even though they were sent the subpoena 2months ago and likely have had to show the government their financials. Now that the hysteria has caused a nice price crash they can use their tethers which haven’t dropped in value value by much and buy everything up and then give their pal Bloomberg a nice little xrp nest egg.
  14. I’ve been reading a lot about the Tether printing and how it is pumping prices on a lot of these exchanges. Does this concern anybody here? Do we think, if this scandal comes to light, it’ll have a significant impact on Ripple and crypto in general? (I’m a long-term XRP #hodler and I don’t day trade, so this isn’t FUD, just general concern over some of the allegations I’ve been reading.)

  17. What are your thoughts on the recent USDT Hacking and the negativity surrounding Bitfinex and Tether in the past month? Is it safe to be in cryptos now? Will it affect XRP? I have some USD just left on Bitstamp because I don't know if Bitcoin will crash any moment and take everything down with it...

  19. hi to all my ripple friend's, after all this crazy past week I see a lot of opportunities and interesting aspects of trading, first of all, please don't sell your XRP holdings or any other crypto as you can miss out the rebound, instead of panic see the big buying opportunity right now. if you have bitcoin or any other crypto to play your trading moves I think the best crypto token to park your money and avoid losses on your bankroll or been exposed to too much volatility is Tether - I think Tether is the safe haven of crypto at this moment. please share your comment on this . thanks
