  1. In today's blog, the retrospective of XRP and Ripple finishes with a closer look at our prior year, 2017. We've come a long way, and 2017 demonstrates that in spades. This blog will cover key code updates for XRP, the controv ersial topic of anonymous payments, community promotions, and XRP's own version of the "Bitcoin Pizza Guy," which is known more as the "XRP Jacket Guy." (He knows who he is!) And for those of you that are new, I wax nostalgic about the old RippleTrade wallet - something only fellow XRP veterans will appreciate. No retelling of 2017 for Ripple and XRP would be complete without discussing SWELL and the Central Bank Summit on Blockchain hosted by Ripple. I hope you enjoy the read - please leave any feedback below! Feel free to share my blog with a friend or on any other platform - and thank you for doing so! 2. Happy holidays to all. I'm attempting to migrate my old rippletrade account to gatehub. Unfortuntaely I cannot find the secret key, or the password for the account. The XRP I purchased and sent to my ripple trade wallet was via snapswap in early 2015. I verified my identity with snapswap - drivers license etc. The snapswap account was connected to my ripple account. Can anyone sugguest how I might recover my account info from snapswap or ripple? Snapswap had verified my identity, so presumably that data is still out there somewhere... but what's left of snapswap dosen't seem to have any mechinism for recovering accounts, and neither does ripple as far as I can tell (at least not without your password). I'm in a bit of a bind here, so would really appreicate any and all help! Many thanks -
  3. I had XRPs on RipppleTrade but they are gone. How can I track my XRPs? Please help!
  4. I never migrated my RT accounts. I thought (incorrectly) that they were essentially in cold storage otherwise. In the past, I attempted to create an account with Gatehub, but abandoned the idea when I got to the part where documents were required in order to verify ID (I don't have proof of a permanent address). Last night, I decided to try again after reading @cmbartley's article explaining that Gatehub can also act as an interface to Ripple wallets. I couldn't remember the password for Gatehub from my previous attempt so I started fresh. I didn't realize that you could still migrate old RT accounts with just a user name and password (no secret key required). After successfully migrating a few accounts, I was looking through some of the activity and noticed there was an old RT account that I didn't realize I had sent more than the minimum amount of XRP required. Not a ton. Just 1,000 XRP. I was probably planning on being a goofball with them. The address was named VladimirPutin. So, I go to migrate the VladimirPutin account on GateHub and it says that it's already been migrated. I look it up on RippleCharts and a week ago the 1,000 XRP were sent somewhere else. A week ago I also received 3 different texts from 3 different numbers with a message about my "Ripple Code." These messages looked just like the ones I received from Gatehub last night. My phone number is pretty new and not many people have it. I never use my phone number when signing up for 2FA (and I didn't sign up for 2FA on Gatehub last night, but I did give them my number which ended up being used for 2FA anyway, for some reason). I finally figured out the password to my first Gatehub account I created and it had my old number listed. I'm confused about what happened to the VladimirPutin account. Is there another way to migrate RT accounts other than through Gatehub? If somebody used Gatehub to migrate my VladimirPutin account for me, does that mean that they also have my new phone number? (Everything has been moved to cold storage.)
  5. Thanks to xrpchatrocks, here is a quick guide for OSX/linux users to build the Ripple Admin Console*. The Ripple Admin Console gives you almost all the functionality of RippleTrade. So if you didn't get a chance to register an account on the RippleTrade site, never fear! You can now access the network with your very own wallet. You will need the following installed on your system beforehand: node.js (make sure its version 0.12 available here, v4 doesn't work!) gulp packages (help here) Commands to type in the terminal: git clone https://github.com/rippex/ripple-client-desktop cd ripple-client-desktop npm install cp config_example.js config.js npm install nw gulp packages You will then find the executable files in the folder: ripple-client-desktop/packages/RippleAdminConsole1.3.2/ These instructions are for linux/osx, if you are using Windows then these instructions won't help you. *previously called the Ripple Desktop Client.
  6. Hi All, This morning I received notification from Authy that my SMS number has been updated. It took 4 days or so but at least it is done, now I need a little help from users here please. What is the best, safest, fastest and most convenient way to migrate from RippleTrade? Until a few minutes ago I was under the impression that the migration from RippleTrade had to be via Gatehub (and was not too happy about reading problems that users here are having with them) but noticed in this link that it is not the case: https://ripple.com/knowledge_center/wallet-providers/ My primary criteria about migrating is that I prefer to not send my ID to an online organisation that I know very little about regardless of what their current status is because after losing money in the Cryptsy debacle I have very little trust left. Any organisation receiving my ID will effectively keep it after I transfer my XRP on to a Rippex Desktop wallet almost immediately. Is there a way around this? Based on the scenario that I am about to login in to RippleTrade to migrate. Please advise: 1) can I migrate directly to my Rippex Desktop wallet? if so, is there a need to send my ID to RippleTrade or Rippex? 2) if I were to migrate to an online wallet, are there any out there that I can migrate to without sending my ID? if so, which ones? 3) if I were to migrate to an online wallet and send my ID as part of the migration or new wallet sign-up process, which do you feel is the most bonafide, reputable and trustworthy one and why would you recommend it? Any input, feedback or advice will be appreciated therefore a big thank you in advance to anyone who replies here. Thank you
  7. Hi all, I just saw a question on Twitter about which places it's currently possible in to trade directly on RCL's built in exchanges. The only one I could come up with is Gatehub at the moment. Is this correct ?? And does anyone know if more trading gateways will be opened in the near future ? And are there also plans to built a desktop wallet with built in RCL trading ? Thanks for your answers ?
  8. It has been implied here that Ripple has been limited in marketing and facilitating XRP and related products for end users because of the the FinCEN enforcement action against Ripple in 2015. While it was originally believed that RippleTrade was shut down because Ripple was pivoting (I believe SnapSwap's announcement to stop XRP/BTC support involved some wording like this), it has been implied here, and I have recently assumed, that the FinCEN agreement required Ripple to shut down RippleTrade and discontinue support of products/services targeting end users. With a quick google search you'll find this page which summarizes the whole ordeal. Linked on that page is the actual settle agreement signed by Ripple and FinCEN (here). To my surprise the settlement agreement in no way seems to directly limit Ripple's ability to provide products and services to end users. Take this statement on the twelfth page of the settlement agreement for example. "Within 30 days of the date of this agreement, Ripple Labs and XRP II will move its service known as Ripple Trade... and any such functional equivalent, to a money services business that is registered with FinCEN" In no way does this sound like Ripple had to shut down Ripple trade (end user focused products), in fact, the continuation of this product/service is implied. While Ripple no doubt was required to comply with stricter oversight because of this agreement, it seems that they are still subject to this stricter oversight due to the fact that XRP II is still selling XRP and therefore functioning as a MSB. For a TLDR version of Ripple's requirements, read the twelfth page of the settlement agreement which lists the "Remedial Framework" Ripple agrees to comply with. If I am understanding the settlement correctly, it seems Ripple decided to stop supporting end users because of the additional AML compliance risk such support would require. Since this decision was optional, it seems there are two immediate and important implications: Ripple doesn't need to wait until May 2018 to provide products and services to end users. Ripple can market XRP and RCL without restrictions related to this agreement If I am incorrect in my understanding, I would like to know why. If I am correct, I'd like to see Ripple continue more and more to publicly support XRP/RCL.
  9. Hi, In 3 weeks (April 1st), RippleTrade is supposed to be completly gone for everyone. I'm looking for another platform. I'm not impressed (yet) with GateHub - see a full topic here So, have anyone tried other options? What could be good for a power user, trader. Thanks.
  10. I've just tried logging into RT, and received a message telling me that the RT security certificate has expired. Anyone else getting this? Will Ripple resolve the issue?
  11. Now that RippleTrade is closing you have several options: 1. Move to another hosted wallet provider Gatehub (suggested) Bluzelle (non US residents only) As long as you have stored your secret key safely somewhere, you will still be able to access your funds elsewhere, even if RippleTrade closes.
  12. I know this has been challenging at times, for us American folks to be able to get funds from our banks into RippleTrade. With the Snapswap and BTC2Ripple gateways closing their doors for US customers, we have to be more creative to move our funds in and out of RT I would certainly recommend taking the time to get Bitstamp KYC approved. Once you are Bitstamp approved, its easy to move BTC from your favorite bitcoin exchange (Coinbase, Circle, etc.) into Bitstamp and then convert to USD IOUs into your Ripple Account, or BTC IOUs if you want. I've heard mention the new Gatehub gateway offers USD transfers via wire. Please let me know of any other methods for getting funds in/out of RT for US customers that you are aware of. Thanks!!!
