  1. @Sebastian has previously pointed out, rightly so, that Circle may be the most realistic competitor to Ripple at the moment. Seemingly working backwards, Circle worked on creating a peer to peer value transfer service, and is now looking to integrate crypto into that service. Part of the argument about XRP being valuable is that it'd make it difficult for another company to create a crypto that we somehow trust, but if that said company had already built a platform people trust, and then issued their own currency, then flipped the switch, it's conceivable they could usurp quite a bit of market from XRP. Particularly if they go the banking route, which they seem to be doing. Obviously Ripple is going enterprise, not Peer-to-Peer so that could be the primary difference. Companies are going to vie for control of various customer bases so we should be on the lookout for their possible routing strategies.
  2. I hope I am not taking up too much of your time. I am looking to set up my Win7 pc to be Linux. I need to have the most security, and a decent GUI. I understand that the majority of what is to be done through Linux will be code based (like cmd.), but if there is a secure, easier to use feature, I am all ears. I am also up for learning how to use it. What do I need from my pc? Absolute control. I need security, and redundancy. I am looking to take my XRP offline, into a cold wallet so an exchange can't flub it up. How do I go about this!? Do I do clean install>AV install>update>set up Virtual Machine (on a USB to isolate my wallet)>Install AV>Update VM>Set up Wallet> Sync> Test send to wallet> Send when confirmed? I have two ledger nano s "wallets" though I have been told that the XRP isn't actually stored in the "wallet", but the Ledger is used to give permission when wishing to move to or from the "wallet". Too much misleading information out there! Anywho, thank you for your time!
  3. EDIT: I made assumptions, so I corrected them. (Correction) Okay, from what I have read and heard, it would seem that POLO is currently working against XRP's rise. They don't want people to spread news about XRP in the trollbox so they ban anyone who says anything in favor of XRP, but they will allow other people to spread FUD AND misinformation without banning them. I have witnessed this, and others have taken screen-shots to back it up. (Assumption) Either they are heavily invested in BTC and ETH (because, lets face it, when they go on a tear we don't see anything "strange" happening) or they are screwing people over when the price goes up, selling from their own wallet and effectively cutting off any upward momentum while simultaneously lining their pockets. Totally possible, right? (Possible, but the "evidence" doesn't say it is absolutely true.) My question is: if it can be proven that they are manipulating the market to THEIR advantage vs letting it grow, what can be done about it?How can this be proven? Do any of you have input on this particular situation? I guess it could be very difficult to prove, but then even if you did, there is no stopping people from putting their money there.
  4. For the third day in a row, I've noticed that the coinbase Buy Bitcoin price is about $70 USD lower than the last trade price for Bitcoin on Poloniex. Does anyone have any comments? At this very moment, it's: Poloniex: $1319.85 coinbase: $1253.58 Something just doesn't make sense. Any comments?
  5. This thread is to ask if anyone else has noticed software bugs on the exchanges. Good programmers understand the importance of writing good code, but nevertheless, in my experience this seems to be the exception, rather than the rule. This evening, I sent a customer support ticket to Poloniex. In order to do so, I had to create a new account, because there was an apparent software bug in the system that would not allow me to enter the support system with my other account. Here is what I wrote: "Hi, I'm a newer user of your exchanged, but I've noticed a number of apparent bugs in your system. First, when I try to access the support center email system from my other account email and password, stopbeingsoedgarallanpolish@yahoo.com and XXXXXXXX, your system gives me an error, saying it's the incorrect password, and I am currently down to two more tries, before I am locked out of the system. Yet, I am able to log in and out for trading, with no problem. This error occurs whether I am already logged in, or not. Second, last night, as well as on other occasions, I tried to close PART of a margin position an enumerable number of times, and each time that I tried to do so, I received no message, and NO ORDER WAS PLACED. Unless you don't allow users to close partial positions, and you're not telling your users, this appears to be an major bug. Third, and slightly similar to the issue above, in wanting to close a partial margin position at market, I've noticed there appears to be no way of doing so. Trying to set a stop-limit order in a fast moving market is nearly impossible. Yet, that's the way your exchange appears to be set up. Is that correct? If so, is that by intent? I hope you will look at these issues, and provide some feedback as to what is going on, especially on how one can close close at market part of an open margin or exchange position, instead of the whole position, at once. Trying to use a market order, which is apparently the case when the close all button is selected to suddenly close out what amounts to a large number of bitcoins, can disadvantageously move a thinly traded market. The system might not work right, but if you fix or include one thing, this one would be most appreciated. Thanks," Nutcake Ok, that's been my experience, which doesn't speak well of the Polo SW developers. And you've got to remember, for every mouse you see in the house... Perhaps there is something I haven't been doing correctly, and their customer service people will set me straight. But software defects are usually pretty obvious to programmers, and bugs in financial software should be non-existent, or at least not very noticeable. Has anyone else seen apparent problems that lead to questions about the quality of an exchange's software?
