  1. I'm interested to hear what the community thinks about this - competition or not? $5 Trln FX Settlement Giant CLS to Launch Blockchain-Based Netting Service ‘Within Days’ By Marie Huillet 2 hours ago https://cointelegraph.com/news/5-trln-fx-settlement-giant-cls-to-launch-blockchain-based-netting-service-within-days "Forex exchange (FX) settlement giant CLS will launch its IBM blockchain-powered netting service within “a matter of days,” according to Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) Alan Manquard. The CSO made the announcement at the IBM Think Tank conference in London Nov. 14, as reported by tech news source Computer Business Review (CBR). CLS Group, which reportedly settles on average $5 trillion in payment instructions daily, is a U.S. FX settlement service supplier with high-profile members that include Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Barclays, and Citigroup. A netting service entails offsetting and determining the value of multiple positions or payments that are due to be exchanged between parties, accounting for factors such as the currency volatility caused by differences in time zones. In such cases, the service is used to fix the remuneration a given party is owed."
  2. https://usethebitcoin.com/amazon-web-services-introduces-blockchain-framework-for-ethereum-and-hyperledger-fabric/ Apologies if this was posted before. Does anyone else see a link between the recent partnership Ripple - Hyperledger and this announcement, either XRP as a base for future ICOs (just like ETH) or XRP as a payment vehicle for scalable apps/frameworks built on top of AWS?
  3. XRP and Ripple are leading the pack in the third week of April. What's going on with Ripple and XRP? New exchange(s), increasing volume, a market rally, and a $25 million dollar investment. Ripple joins Hyperledger, and keynotes at several conferences: The company also hired a Head of Community! @peebo38 Rounding it out, the community gets a new tip bot, but this time on Telegram, and a new coin promotion just started at XRPChat. I cover all of this in today's blog. Hope you enjoy & please leave any feedback below. 5. JAXenter: Will Quilt be integrated with other Hyperledger projects? Adrian Hope-Bailie: The idea is that Hyperledger Quilt will become a ledger interoperability solution for Hyperledger projects and that is huge. This will enable Hyperledger members’ distributed ledger solutions, financial institutions’ private ledgers, IoT companies’ wallets, and supply chain systems to connect with one another to perform distributed atomic transactions. https://jaxenter.com/hyperledger-quilt-interview-bailie-138375.html

Feel free to leave your comments positive or negative here, and also feel free to share over other media as you can! 14. https://www.cio.com.au/article/621585/anz-westpac-trial-blockchain-bank-guarantees/ The article was about Hyperledger, but Ripple stole the show at the end. While they are still doing "trials" of hyperledger, Ripple has been in production since 2015? This publication targets CIOs of companies and organizations. This is understated... yet awesome.... coverage!

  19. "The three major Indonesian telco operators Telkomsel, Indosat and XL have their own proprietary e-money solution. Additionally, some Indonesian banks like CIMB offer “mobile banking account” to allow payments and transfers using a mobile phone without a formal bank account. This proliferation of e-money solution is making it harder for a “winning” solution to emerge. The Indonesian Telcos have tried to interoperate among each other to revive their e-money efforts, but it doesn’t seem to be enough." http://www.fifthmoment.com/category/remittance/

  21. "...a number of prerequisites for blockchain to fulfill its potential in financial services – and beyond. Key among these is achieving a standard way of implementing the technology. A shared ledgering technology that can provide a consistent view across the broad business network needs a standard way of transferring ledger data. Organisations will participate in multiple ledgers – an FX network, a bond network, et cetera. Just as the internet and intranets share the same technology, so the blockchain proposition needs interoperability to function. In this context, the recently announced open ledger project being orchestrated by the Linux Foundation is critical. Under an open governance model, this project will develop an enterprise grade, open source distributed ledger framework" -- Banking On the BlockChain [Finextra Whitepaper]
  22. Might ILP be the open standard? http://www.slideshare.net/MrCollectrix/the-tech-landscape-surrounding-distributed-ledgers?ref=http://www.ofnumbers.com/2015/12/19/the-evolving-distributed-ledger-tech-landscape/
  23. Friend or foe of ILP? "Open Blockchain is based on the expectation that there will be many blockchain networks, with each network ledger serving a different goal. While there may be a popular single instance of a general-use network, there is no requirement for any one network ledger to rely upon any other network for its core functionality. Despite this level of network independence, Open Blockchain still requires an addressing system that allows transactions on one ledger to discover and utilize appropriate transactions and smart contracts (chaincode) on other ledgers." -- https://github.com/openblockchain/obc-docs/blob/master/whitepaper.md Although Wolpert of IBM did say that "Interledger-ing is important".
  24. "Hyperledger has taken a different approach than many other blockchain systems by removing what they consider unnecessary features and provide just shared replicated ledgers. In their view, this core technology, the distributed ledger, can then be integrated into existing systems to allow banks and financial institutions to settle in real time, mitigating risk and the need for expensive reconciliation without the need for a central party. http://www.ofnumbers.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Permissioned-distributed-ledgers.pdf
  25. This is highly speculative but: 1. Tweet from Larsen regarding comments by John Wolpert, IBM's Global Blockchain Offering Director: 2. Quotes from Coindesk IBM Director Declares 'We’re All in on Blockchain' "John Wolpert gave an overview of IBM’s thesis on the technology, labeling blockchain projects such as bitcoin and Ethereum as "first generation" versions of a concept that he believes suffer from deficiencies, both in technology and vision, that will hold back their ability to appeal to businesses." "It has to be immutable and modular," he said. "I can’t be this is the consensus algorithm, this is the token, all of that has to be modular. It has to be scalable. Interledger-ing is important. You have to inter-op between chains and different things." Perhaps he meant using Hyperledger as the interledger, but perhaps he means ILP...
