  1. Hey, I'm running a local private rippled network (4 nodes including 2 with full history) (seperated from the ripple)... the question is, in the case when all servers went down is it possible to get them up again and import the data from the nudb files of one of the node containing the full history? NB: I tried using the the import_db stanza but its not working...
  2. Hi, when it comes to our everyday economical behaviour, most people assume it is bartering and an exchange of physical things. Therefore they assume money is a standard of exchange and even relate money with a special thing everybody somehow has agreed to use. While this assumptions have no influence on our daily usage it is an enormous misunderstanding of money and the law mechanisms behind it. After researching this issues for several years and debating it repetetivly on occasion whenever someone sticks to the barter dogma, I wrote this short explanation in order to give not only a wider and more realistic perspective of the understanding of money but also to make it more comprehensible regarding the scientific facts/sources. It also contains a very small part about cryptos and why they cannot replace conventional money in their actual state. scribd.com: What is money? Any feedback is appreciated. Regards ;-)
  3. In this, my first community blog post, I tell a story of the early days of the internet of information, hows things developed and make some comparisons to the current situation, including my views and a comparison between Ripple and Cisco. It's a true story. I hope you enjoy. https://xrpcommunity.blog/ripple-will-be-the-cisco-systems-for-the-internet-of-value-a-k-a-memoirs-of-young-network-engineer-circa-1986/ Also, big thanks to Hodor and Pablo for their help with reviewing my early revisions.. 4. My history of Ripple continues through the years of 2014-2016; It covers the dramatic news stories you may have heard about, Ripple's steady progress in development, their pivot away from Codius, and the birth of Interledger. The controversial topics like XRP allocation and organization shake-ups are not ignored; read through it and provide your own perspective if you were around (in crypto land) during that time frame. Of course, extra points if you work (or previously worked) for Ripple! Hope you enjoy! Please leave any feedback below. Also, feel free to share my blog with a friend or on any other platform - and thanks for doing so! 5. The procrastination is over - I finally wrote a blog about the history of XRP! I found so many incredible facts and interesting notes that it was impossible to contain them all in one blog entry. Because of this, I plan on covering a different time period for each entry; today's blog covers the years 2011 - 2013. For those XRP owners that may not know about the history of Ripple and XRP from that time frame: You should consider reading this blog entry. I discuss the origin of the concept of the XRP Ledger, the core team that put the idea together, as well as the early funding rounds and XRP distribution. Hope you enjoy! Please leave any feedback below. Feel free to share my blog with a friend or family member, or on any other platform - and thank you for doing so! 6. Looking at the transaction history in Gatehub and Ripplecharts I noticed two transactions are missing from may this year. Transactions before and after are visible. The total amount on the wallet is correct. Has there been some blackout which explains this hole in the record?
  7. https://xrphodor.wordpress.com/2017/07/11/the-interledger-protocol-a-bigger-pie-for-everybody/ This is my latest blog; I'm doing two things with this entry: Explaining XRP, its history and function Connecting why its good for XRP Leave comments and let me know if you like / dislike it, and feel free to share it as much as you want on other media! Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ripple/comments/6mmku0/the_interledger_protocol_a_bigger_pie_for/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Hodor7777/status/884783605217730561
  8. This tweet strongly reminds me the famous Bitcoin Pizza story: "the notorious Bitcoin Pizza Day. On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, a developer, paid $10,000 BTC for two pizzas from the Papa John’s franchise. Every year on this date, people celebrate this historic transaction that would cost $4.4 million USD at today’s current rates for 16 slices of pizza." Who agrees to establish a new tradition here - "Ripple Jet Fuel Day"? According to the tweet it would be July 10. History does not repeat itself, but it rhymes!
  9. Dear Devs! Is there a reasonable Transaction overview in the making? Especially for tax purposes, your current transaction history is absolutely insufficient. Please implement a professional transaction history, sortable by several variables, and exportable! I spoke with plenty of users and we really need this soon.
  10. For a long time now, XRP fans have been struggling with the fact that XRP is not the top of the list. Despite being clearly better in every measurable metric for a crypto-currency, XRP is ranked either second or third on the list in terms of market capitalization. We've dealt with this underdog status with a combination of humor and frustration. And for more than a short time, Ripple had to precisely execute their business plan like a model Silicon valley start-up, not one of those fly-by-night ICOs that we hear so much about now-a-days. One of my favorite quotes from Miguel Vias is that Ripple "doesn't have any gold toilets." He was talking about these same ICOs that are pulling in so much money from inept investors. (source: __https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiNDDWZs0b4__) No, Ripple was different, and much more self-disciplined - almost Spartan? They operated lean, carefully choosing where and when to place their resources and their efforts, not afraid to change course when it meant getting results in a specific area. This is the mark of a well-led company, that can navigate through completely uncharted waters in a landscape filled with danger. They were short on cash... always? I'm just guessing, but 2013 and 2014 must not have been easy for Chris Larsen and company. They endured, however... they persisted... and now here we are! 2017: The Underdog Takes the Stage Ripple has continued to impress the market and even their staunchest critics over at bitcoinland with their continued critical wins in every category that matters. The Inter-ledger protocol (ILP), The Ripple Consensus Ledger (RCL), and the digital asset / cryptocurrency (XRP) have proven to be a very formidable combination that no other grouping of technology can beat. (source: https://ripple.com/xrp/) Ripple has made it possible for businesses, financial institutions, banks, central banks, and governmental authorities to participate in the distributed ledger technology revolution, and most importantly, has made it easy for them to do so. The Wonderful Flip Side of Supply Much has been made of the XRP lockup. (source: http://www.coindesk.com/ripple-pledges-lock-14-billion-xrp-cryptocurrency/ ) It will shut off the supply of XRP to minimum levels for years to come, giving the markets a mathematical certainty abut supply. Not only that, but it will use and demonstrate the Escrow functionality within the RCL; escrow is a huge selling point for financial institutions. The XRPChat community debates about the supply of xrp, but we seldom give though to the flip side: just how much cash has Ripple received in 2017 for its off-the-books sale of xrp to financial institutions and market makers? Some of us believe they've sold at a discount. Others of us believe that it must have been sold at a premium. Regardless, the inevitable conclusion is that Ripple (the company) now has enough cash to go in almost any direction they want. This is an epic sea-change. No longer do they have to play underdog to crypto-currencies whose only goal is to make a few founding members wealthy. It's become readily apparent to the larger financial community that Ripple is about payments, and about transforming global payments into a system of three-second transfers, even between fiat currencies and crypto-currencies. It is flexible, fast, and transformative in nature, and it's being adopted worldwide at an alarming pace. Ripple and its technology stack is now an unstoppable force; what will the new headlines say today?
  11. In "The Big Short", Christian Bale plays a near-autistic eccentric trader who bucked the trends of the prevailing market sentiment. Only a minority of traders in the housing bubble were astute enough to recognize a unique opportunity in the midst of a developing crisis, and they placed their bets accordingly. Along the way, they had to "keep the faith" in the face of jeers from their own investors. When they faced their biggest moments of self-doubt, how did they respond? They doubled down. They increased their position - not from a standpoint of ego - but because they believed in the lessons of history and the accuracy of their mathematical analysis. XRP Chat Does this remind you of our forum? We debate the numbers constantly. We discuss use cases. We calculate the utility of our preferred cryptocurrency, XRP, not in the millions or even billions, but in the trillions and quadrillions of possible fiat flow through the network. Our group differs from other crypto-coin fan bases, in that our product is based on sound value and science, and will unquestioningly lead to banks and financial institutions saving massive amounts of money, all while providing instantaneous payments for customers, where those same transfers used to take days. We calculate the odds and future together, arguing with our viewpoints, observations, and logic, and often with our egos on full display. The Big Short was based on real life, because often history is stranger than fiction. Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Christian Bale breathed life into the movie, and portrayed how intense the story became for the big trading houses. Ripple's rise is even more striking; the new innovator contrasting with the prevailing thinking that Bitcoin cannot be unseated from the throne. Our Story Yes, there is much drama in crypto, and cryptocurrency investors are still very much a minority; If you think about what's happened with Ripple, it is something where we look at each other and say "we couldn't make this stuff up!" Think about what's happened since 2013, and tell me if this doesn't have the makings for a Hollywood movie: A Silicon Valley Start-Up Crypto-currency Hatred and Lies from Competitors A Wealthy Heir Angel Investor (source: http://pagesix.com/2017/06/04/matthew-mellons-ripple-investment-is-paying-off/ ) A Feud and Lawsuit Against a Company Founder (source: http://www.coindesk.com/ripple-jed-mccaleb-settle-suit-over-1-million-in-disputed-funds/) And now... the shining moments that have arrived in 2017. RCL is updated to support ILP (source: http://www.econotimes.com/Ripple-announces-new-features-bringing-transaction-throughput-to-Visa-levels-622104) 47 banks form a consortium to use the RCL and Ripple Technology (source: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/01/japanese-banks-plan-to-adopt-blockchain-for-payments.html ) 15 new exchanges directly trade XRP against other currencies in the space of 6 weeks (source: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:9MNVeFv7QywJ https://coinreport.net/xrp-listed-six-exchanges/+&cd=2&hl=it&ct=clnk&gl=it https://cointelegraph.com/press-releases/blockchain-exchange-bitsane-introduces-ripple-trading-at-consensus-2017 https://ripple.com/insights/news/xrp-liquidity-to-deepen-with-listings-on-six-new-exchanges/) Central Banks BOE trials ILP with Ripple (source: http://www.bankingtech.com/775302/bank-of-england-teams-with-ripple-for-cross-border-payments/) Ripple Gets a Seat on the IMF Advisory Board (source: http://www.imf.org/en/News/Articles/2017/03/15/pr1784-imf-managing-director-welcomes-establishment-of-high-level-advisory-group-on-fintech) The price of XRP climbs to new heights (source: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/26/bitcoin-rival-ripple-is-sitting-on-many-billions-of-dollars-of-xrp.html) Liquidity Pouring into the Ecosystem at increasing rates (https://xrpcharts.ripple.com/#/history) Fortify your knowledge and believe in your investment; you'll be able buy some popcorn and say "Yes! I was there when this went down!" Even now in 2017, only a small number of people have the patience to learn how to overcome the barriers to entry and invest at the stage of early adoption in the innovation life cycle. And yet still here we are, investing early. And believe me, it's still early... And now there's nothing holding XRP back from ascending to it's deserved spot at #1. Just keep in mind that when XRP takes #1, it might happen much faster than you anticipated.
