Guest posted a topic in General DiscussionI'm sure that some other "moonboi" was using "before this decade is out" phrase in a speech. So, it only seems appropriate to think big and think how to reach "the standard" by the end of the decade. I'm inspired by the SDF mandate and their clear blog post. Since the arrival of Denelle Dixon, the folks at Stellar figured out that communicating openly, regularly and having a plan is actually going to benefit them in the long run and kill most of the FUD. Since Ripple is in a similar situation (over 50% of total XRP ever created is held by Ripple) but only the FUD is 100x worse, I'd like to kick-off a major discussion about the future distribution of escrowed and non-escrowed XRP held by Ripple. Since 2017, every 1st of the month, we get reoccurring headlines, Ripple releases 1 billion XRP, dump incoming? Without skipping a beat... Ideally, I'd like to see Ripple do something similar to SDF and publish this as an insight post. XRP is having a nice momentum in 2020 so this is a perfect time. This would be completely in-line with their famous sentence, "Ripple urges others in the industry to follow its lead to build trust, foster open communication and raise the bar industry-wide", mentioned in the latest XRP Q4 report. Sure, a search on Ripple's website will give you extra info on the escrow and how they plan to "distribute" it but in fact it is all too outdated and absolutely not detailed. There's no plan, besides locking the XRP to calm the nerves of people fearing huge dump. In 2018, Xpring and UBRI were called "a joke" and already in 2019 they became the major players in the XRP-ecosystem. We know that in Q3 2019, Ripple further reduced XRP sales and paused programmatic sales. Clicking here, you'll get the snapshot of the XRP-distribution. Undistributed (aggregate amount of XRP held by Ripple) + Escrowed (majority is from Ripple) yields about 55 billion+ XRP held by Ripple. Questions to consider: - if 1 billion is released per month (from an escrow) -> 12 billion per year what do you do with that in the coming 10-years? In 2018 and H1 2019, many were FUD-ing that millions/billions are thrown out hoping that something will stick but now since Xpring seems to be shaping to a stable structure, new acqui-hires make sense, DeFi talk kicks-in, we could argue that there's a order in this apparent chaos. For sure, Ripple knows in which direction they want to go so why just not mention it and shut people's mouths once and for all (or at least for the next 5-10 years :)) Ecosystem Support (from SDF mandate): hackathons, meetups, and other important developer-community initiatives. making XRP Ledger an attractive place to build. -> provide monetary support to teams and projects that are independently strengthening the ecosystem. Use-Case Investment (from SDF mandate): New products : create business units and products to fill gaps they perceive in the ecosystem. -> Xpring/Ripple??? Will the product create value for many other XRPL-based projects? Could Ripple/Xpring fill the gap in the ecosystem by other means? Will the development process help the Ripple team better support current or future XRPL projects Enterprise Fund: will be a venture-style fund for growing the network -> either acquire or invest in businesses that have potential for the XRP ecosystem. Some of these businesses may not yet be building on XRP Ledger but would bring substantial benefit to the ecosystem and to their own business if they were brought to the network. Direct investments and acquisitions will give a special influence over the funding recipients. Any proceeds from investments will be cycled back into the Fund. XRP might be directly invested into projects or XRP might be sold for currency to invest. Similar to other programs, there is no public application for the Enterprise Fund. Ripple/Xpring will sources its own candidates, asking: Is the management team experienced, knowledgeable, and focused? Is blockchain a central component of the company’s business model and value? What value could the company bring to the XRP ecosystem? What value could Ripple in turn bring to the company? Does the company have a connection to Ripple/Xpring’s mission? Is the company’s market large and meaningful for Ripple? All this should be of course traceable. Any thoughts folks?
