  2. Hey there smart people, I'm really excited about Codius and the other products Ripple is bringing to the market, I think there is a lot of potential time and money to be saved if companies successfully implement these solutions. But with blockchain still being so young I do wonder what we can realistically work on right now and what we can expect in the near future. And I'm currently tasked (as an intern) with just that, implementing blockchain solutions for this company. And I'm so glad to be given this opportunity but it sure ain't easy with blockchain still at it's infancy. The company I work for does a lot of intermediary stuff for local governments, insurance parties and people of low income or welfare. For instance, they have a centralized solution that withholds part of the welfare cheque for the insurance premium to prevent welfare beneficiaries from getting into depth by not paying their premiums (which happens a lot). As you can imagine this involves a lot of work with auditing and correcting invoices because these payments don't happen in real-time because there are different organisations involved. I feel like DAO's (decentralized autonomous organisations) could be an excellent solution to this problem. Blockchain/Interledger would provide a closed ecosystem where there cannot be any double-spend while also providing liquidity and speed. Codius could provide a platform for deploying smartcontracts and DAO's where the consensus mechanisms can be tailored to the use cases at hand. It's my understanding that the combination of Codius and Interledger could result in a platform where these parties are an entity in this ecosystem that can share crypto and fiat wallets and have access to these 'smart'-invoices where they can track all the bills in real time and see what happens with the funds, where disputes can be resolved almost instantly and all that goodness that saves organisations time and money. The things I really like about ILP and Codius are: Private smartcontracts (Whereas ethereum is a public blockchain) Level of entry (Javascript or any other language) Easy control over fiat/crypto wallets Scalability But I also have a few doubts, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this: Codius is still very young, there are a lot more developers working on Ethereum and dAPPS that might provide a plug-and-play solution for the use cases at hand. Maybe there are other platforms out there that are completely flying under my radar that provide solutions to my use cases? I'd really, really like to hear your guys thoughts and opinions on this and I have some questions too that I can't quite work out yet: What are your expectations when the Codius platform will come into fruition when it comes to adoption and functionality? Will I have to program these solutions from scratch myself or will Codius eventually have plug-and-play (d)apps too like Ethereum? What programming language should I pick up if I want to test the waters myself?
  3. A fairly balanced and informative opinion piece, imo. But its lack of conclusion almost feels like the uncredited author must have been pulling their own teeth not to say too much. Still a good read. https://bitcoinschannel.com/is-the-xrp-ledger-more-decentralized-than-bitcoin-btc/
  4. I'm on the verge of exploding with every single Spanish person here in Madrid talking about XRP being centralized. I'm trying hard to add up the investors of XRP but people seem to follow the "It's premined 100%", "Ripple owns the majority", BS every time instead of seeing the big picture. I'm loosing faith on people nowadays who are used to everything being free and easy, without giving proper acknowledgement to those who create something of top quality. What can I do to persuade them to see differently? It's demotivating sometimes to think the idea will be passed on to people interested on crypto in the future. It's also hard when people seem to be in crypto just for hitting the 1000% ROI in a month with all the stupid **** ICOs happening in Spain. I like the team and the company, I see the potential, but I know its on us the believers to convert as many people into the same belief in order for XRP to truly succeed. As you can see I'm a bit frustrated about the current status of SWELL taken out of context and ppl blaming Ripple of how XRP is not $1. We need to come up with a proper script for everyone to use in tough debates where people just seem to scream "Centralized" & "Premined" What do you think?
  5. This is what I am going to post in the comment sections of articles that are spreading FUD, as well as people saying things that aren't true. Feel free to copy/paste it, as well as make corrections/add stuff. If you want to know about Ripple Labs (RL) and XRP, maybe you should exercise Due Diligence. These comments about how XRP is a scam or how they are just propping up the Financial Institutions just show how ignorant most people actually are. There is a REAL-WORLD ISSUE regarding transferring money. Bitcoin is NOT the answer. You want to talk about decentralization? How is it that 5 MINING POOLS control over 51% of Bitcoin? Or Ethereum's 3 MINING POOLS!? You call THAT decentralization? There will ALWAYS be a mining entity that can get a great deal on electricity consumption, and when you take into consideration the COST of mining, from an environmental standpoint it is such a waste and socially irresponsible! It is like burning a LOT of oil to produce electricity that will be used to pump less oil than it takes to run it. As far as how XRP can become MORE decentralized than Bitcoin, Ripple Labs has vowed that for every 2 Validator Nodes created by other trusted companies, Ripple Labs will take down 1 of their 25 Validator Nodes. BOOM! All you hear about from BTC supporters is how awesome BTC is. But you don't hear how the miners can screw everything up if they choose to do so with a fork or reversed transactions! Oh, and XRP is NOT PRE-MINED! Transactions are in the thousands/s (able to be scaled to match the throughput of VISA!), and the average transaction takes <8 seconds. You are able to store value on XRP! "If you want to support and empower the incumbents of the corrupt ba(n)king system instead of the people, invest in ripple." Really? People should be pushing for transparency, and if the Ripple Consensus Ledger/Interledger Protocol is widely adopted, don't you think that "the people" should ALSO push for transparency vs. having private ledgers? Obviously there needs to be protocols in place to protect privacy, but that ALSO doesn't necessitate an unquestionable belief that banks are always acting in the best interest of the public. I'd LOVE to know if the banks we are using are funding illegal/immoral agendas. Overall, I think that most people miss the forest for the trees: they see a price increase and say, "WHOA! That isn't natural!" XRP was undervalued this entire time. There were regulatory problems, and they jumped through EVERY hoop needed in order to change the world. In my opinion, most of the negative articles authored, and untrue comments made about Ripple Labs and XRP stem from a.) a general misunderstanding/ignorance of what Ripple Labs and XRP are all about, and b.) people who are heavily invested in other cryptos, including Bitcoin, and are threatened by RL's success as well the technological advancements made that show BTC is antiquated. Currently, there are over 200k backlogged transactions, and the cost of mining BTC is increasing.
  6. Seeing the POLO DDOS (?)/SCAMs repeating and feeling the agony of those losing their entire wealth (see POLO trollbox) I feel it is time the community stood up and made sure something happens. I believe that traders deserve a FAIR marketplace, FREE of the very possibility of these. We need an exchange that is distributed and can not be manipulated, tampered with and can not be attacked. A place where traders can take their earnings/savings/invest their shirts with confidence, that it will be possible to trade and they will be able to transact and not have to helplessly watch their investment being burnt in a matter of an hour. I would like to call all those who morally agree with this initiative for whatever the reasons, personal loss or just sympathy, to comment on the idea. First off, I'd like to assess what the general perception of the demand for such an exchange is. I have some ideas of the key requirements myself, but would like to invite you to comment without influencing inputs. The technology will be there and parts of it are already available, separately. I believe something like this requires smart contracts and transactions can be done through the ILP.. I will be looking into this as I see a market gap. Am I the only one???
  7. Have you guys seen this? https://news.bitcoin.com/decentralized-fintech-exchange-openledger-launches-today/?utm_content=buffer26ee0&utm_medium=social&utm_source=plus.google.com&utm_campaign=buffer "OpenLedger, the first decentralized “FinTech Exchange,” launches today. OpenLedger enables users to convert Bitcoin to “fiat-pegged” smart coins that can be held or traded within a decentralized system. Smart coins can be cashed in through the Nanocard network, Paypal, Ripple gateway, and money transfers.
