Volume and XRP pricing is key to estimate that timing. Jed can sell no more than 1.5% of daily volume.
A math example. With a daily volume of 1.2 M USD and XRP priced 0.006 USD, the daily vol is 200M XRP 1.5% being 3M to be dumped per day or about 1B per year.
On such a rate still about 5 years to go ....

It would seem like XRP has the biggest potential to be a game changer in the development of ILP/RCL.
There is a strong case for why a strong XRP would facilitate a seismic shift in the direction of the adoption of blockchain technology worldwide. Ripple has laid out how XRP would clearly save banks a lot of money if used. Perhaps what is less clear is the affect on the resources that would be able to be dedicated to the protocol and subsequently what that success would mean for the ecosystem if that should happen.
The banks have a real opportunity at this moment to be a part of a new layer of a financial system unlike anything that's been seen before. Ripple has a team of developers that truly is top notch, however the Ripple community of developers haven't drawn the crowds that ethereum and Bitcoin enjoy.
There were choices made at the beginning of Opencoin about how XRP would be allocated and we all chose to support the distribution. However I see the negative connotation associated with Ripple erased if the market making plan works because it will stimulate developer interest.
If there is a rising XRP price and an incentive to build things to trade and improve RCL, everyone wins. Furthermore if banks were to support such a program they could give Ripple a huge advantage over btc and eth, while at the same time encouraging investment in these alternative technologies.

I've been quiet on this board for a long time, but over the past year or so but I was inspired by Ripple's vision. I wrote my research papers for my undergrad degree on ripple's potential for the financial sector. I started working for bluzelle, writing trying to communicate the value proposition for ripple and Blockchain technology for financial institutions. I spoke with the Canadian central bank about the potential for the tech.

Perhaps most importantly I have been developing trading software to take advantage of the market making platform that ripple keeps talking about. But where is it? I feel as if the leadership of ripple puts forth a great vision but doesn't give stakeholders enough follow through and consistency to see an appreciation in xrp.

Takashi Okita, CEO of SBI Ripple Asia, said this is third time that Chris Larsen made joint venture with Yoshitaka Kitao.

Zooplankton reacted to nik in how to withdraw ETH from gatehub
@DNA6a use the "INSTANT" tab from the "SEND TO" option, where the sender is your ripple wallet and the receiver is"MY WALLET". Just type for the receiving wallet "MY WALLET" if you haven't renamed it. You will receive a message that it is a transaction between two of your wallets, so that you know that you don't send the ether somewhere else. Then, send it from "MY WALLET" (hosted wallet" to your ETH account on the Ethereum blockchain.
@mazi: this low level / technical answers should be very useful for anybody landing on Gatehub and not having the benefit of xrpchat.
On another note, generally speaking outside the crypto world, it would be interesting to look at funding a workable set-up of crowd learning, should a solid, down to earth concept might arise.

Zooplankton reacted to tommytrain in Number of transactions on RCL recently hit ATH
My understanding (old, vague and perhaps misinformed) was that network topology/size and bandwidth/latency between nodes is the theoretical bottleneck and is subject to O(n^2) scaling - i.e. the data which needs to be computed and transmitted increases exponentially for every user and their transactions (n*n). The larger the network,  the more users, the greater the capacity required for all the data to be broadcast and voted on by every node.
Upshot being RCL may be able to handle 1000tps but as long as Ripple's core UNL is exclusive and small, it is difficult to predict the practical TPS of a fully deployed, validated and decentralized network with >100 nodes serving tens of thousands (or more) of accounts.
If metrics are available by those able to pull data these are stats I'd be interested in:
absolute peak tps (highest ratio of: transactions per ledger/ledger close time) avg daily tps peak unique users per ledger avg daily unique users

Yandel tangent alert ... that scene is burnt out. MIT and Microsoft labs putting up validators is way more interesting, if there is academic support behind network operation instead of subsidized Chinese coal Mining operations being overpaid for providing excessive yet still centralized security ... that's a no brainer for fintech and government alike. /p>
