Esprxp reacted to GiddyUp in The era of overnight bitcoin millionaires is fading fast, a ‘seismic shift’ says analyst
"As day traders in search of a ‘quick buck’ get wiped out, long-term prospects for the crypto industry rise"
    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/a-seismic-shift-is-taking-place-in-the-cryptocurrency-sector-analyst-says-2018-04-05
“It has been this correction that’s been mainly responsible for an evolution in investor attitude. I believe that now the overwhelming majority of investors do not view cryptocurrencies as a way to make a fast buck, as perhaps previously many more might have done,” said Nigel Green, founder and chief executive at deVere Group, in an email to MarketWatch.
“Rather, they are now investing in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Dash and Litecoin, among others, as they can see the core value over a longer time horizon.”
"Those at the forefront of the industry are continually fighting cynics who argue the technology is a get-rich-quick scam, riddled with nefarious behavior of want-to-be investors who troll forums discussing why the only way for bitcoin to go, is up: A stigma that’s hard to shake."
“Cryptocurrencies are a crock,” said Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) at a House Financial Services Committee meeting in March.
“They allow a few dozen men to sit their pajamas and tell their wives they’re going to be millionaires.”
However, these pajama traders are dwindling. The price decline from $19,694.68 in December of 2017 to below $6,000 just six weeks later saw a raft of Reddit posts about people losing their entire fortunes.
"Despite all this, the seismic shift will require regulators to play their part. However, Green said the change in sentiment from pajama trader to institutional investor is well under way."
“There is a growing sense, especially since the recent G-20 summit, that regulation of the cryptocurrency sector is now inevitable – and this, along with growing acceptance in the business and finance community, is giving today’s investors more long-term horizon confidence.”

So i read an article linked on here a few days ago. The article was called something like " ripple price MAsSACRE will googles new ban mark the end for xrp." It went on about how xrp would soon die as "ripple will no longer be able to be mined".
Not sure it was entirely my doing but i sent a strongly worded email to the express and suggested they research before publishing. The article was pulled and i got this reponse :

Good post. I think we are on the same vital wave.
But, I think a paradigm shift like the expected one will take longer than previously thought.
Patience is the lost element of 21st century society.

    https://cryptorecorder.com/2018/04/02/ripple-xrp-wont-be-this-cheap-again/
Reasons and Opportunities to Invest in Ripple XRP when it’s cheap
    1) Bithum-Korea Pay Service partnership will boost Ripple value
Bithum is South Korea’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, and it recently partnered with Korea Pay Service to create a crypto friendly payment system for South Koreans. This will create a rise in the number of people spending crypto tokens in South Korea. Bithum sees a large amount of XRP token trading, and an increase in Bithum usage will drive the volume of XRP trading up. South Korean traders accounted for a 100% surge in Ripple price a few months earlier, and the same might happen again.
    2) Uphold, and London Block Exchange have added Ripple (XRP)
Uphold is a crypto bank that allows you to buy and hold Ripple for no transaction fee and convert it to 7 other cryptocurrencies and 23 fiat currencies as well as 4 precious metals. London Block Exchange is UK’s only crypto exchange. Both of them adding Ripple will result in the price going up, and your investment will surely pay huge dividends.

Be careful with those implications. Just because there are great news doesn't mean people will be sorry for not buying at 50 cents. There's a very real chance the entire cryptosphere is overpriced by another scale of 3x - 5x for instance. You're all taking it as a given that real adoption will push the valuation into the trillions "just because" and there's nothing to indicate this is in fact the case. We are really just relying on speculators running this way up upon proof of strong real world adoption. No one knows where it settles if speculators were to completely leave these currencies to be priced solely by their use case. Arguably XRPL is a very efficient settlement network, and it could do its job perfectly fine with XRP being worth like 1 cent each. We just don't know yet.
The FUD from the $0.006 days was never adequately answered; it's just that a ton of speculators stepped in with a lot of money, and the supply is being cornered. These pricings for crypto currencies are rather artificial, and still very high even now.

Some more amazing news this time another Central Bank in the Netherlands looking favourably on XRP
    From the article:
“The Netherlands Central Bank, called De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), touted Ripple blockchain technology as a fast process that takes place every 2-5 seconds, affirming that “Ripple is a good deal faster than Bitcoin and requires less computer capacity”.
“Banks are showing an increasing interest in the Ripple protocol. Integration of the payment protocol would allow banks to offer their customers the ability to transfer any amount of money in any currency to other institutions that use the protocol, without the need for intermediaries. That would lead to cost savings for banks. At present, one German and two American banks are using the Ripple network, while several other banks are experimenting with it.”
“The interest from the banking sector, in particular, in using the Ripple network means its use could grow rapidly in the near future. It is therefore important to monitor this development closely and to be involved in any steps that banks may take.”
As the article points out there are a few Central Banks interested in XRP including Saudi Arabia, China and now the Netherlands. This isn’t just banks we are now talking about but Central Banks!!
More great news upon more great news. If you haven’t yet invested in XRP now is the time to do it at these amazingly undervalued prices. We won’t be here for long. I can see the posts in the future now “gees I wish I had bought more when XRP was 50 cents”

Esprxp reacted to corak in XRP Distribution stats on rNQEMJA4PsoSrZRn9J6RajAYhcDzzhf8ok
Last 8 days there's been a steady distribution of XRP from wallet rBAyQitUnr2TqrPjmQ2invYwH29fVTyrVd into rNQEMJA4PsoSrZRn9J6RajAYhcDzzhf8ok and then to many small wallets. The amount in the initial wallet was roughly 3.1 billion XRP. Currently, there is ~2750 million remaining.
I'm guessing it's an exchange;  the incoming transfers are using a destination tag "1000000004".
I scanned all transactions involving rNQEMJA4PsoSrZRn9J6RajAYhcDzzhf8ok via data API and aggregated the outgoing transactions (ones with less than 1M XRP) based on hour-of-day UTC, in order to determine the timezone of the exchange.
The histogram, taken from 27k payment transactions looks like this:

Pretty conclusive it aligns with SEA hours. The payments are of all kinds of sizes, my guess is that they are selling XRP "over the counter" like what Bitstamp did back in 2013 where you bought it direct from the exchange, and people are just moving these amounts into private wallets.

The important part of the interview:

Many other banks rely on the R3 consortium to develop their own central solution. Why is R3 not suitable for Erste Group? R3 wants to develop its own Distributed Ledger as an alternative to Blockchain. We looked at the conditions, conducted discussions and found that there were no suitable use cases for us. We want to actively shape the development and therefore need to find out well in which consortia our experts contribute and in which not. R3 wants to cover many areas, but we want to be actively integrated into the workflow. Ripple was more open? We chose ripple because the ledger was better and the experiments seemed more exciting. The partner network also played an important role. We are looking for cooperation banks that have the same target markets. Interbank trade, import business - which areas are exciting for the finance sector?

Esprxp reacted to xrphilosophy in Custodial services
If you are a large fund and attracting institutions or individuals to invest those people need assurance that their XRP is secure and in good hands.  Not like these exchanges where anything goes.  So the broker through which the fund is managed would have to be sec compliant, and finra, sipc, msrb compliant.  In other words, bigger fish cannot risk investing in digital assets via funds, or otherwise, if the clearinghouse with which their funds are kept and managed are not to normal securities standards.  This is what is holding back the big money right now.
Oppenheimer, Fidelity, Edward Jones, the Idaho Teachers Pension Plan, Harvard University will not invest in this crypto market unless they have legal and regulatory assurance that the custodial services through which they invest actually take legal custody of the asset with insurance (if we lose it/get hacked/F- up we reimburse you).  Much like stocks.
Kraken and BitStamp as good as they are for some us (and they're not great) don't cut it for the big boys.
It's not that there's been no need for custodial services- There has been.  Tons of money is chomping at the bit, waiting on the sidelines to feast on this crypto market- if you ask anyone in those sectors this is the same drumbeat over and over.
As Miguel Vias has stated- there is a great need for custodial services in order for XRP in particular to develop true liquidity, but the market is so damn young that this is still being worked out by new entrants in the space- there are regulatory and legal issues, etc to be hashed out for this new asset class. And I am supposing that first movers may find it risky as well.  But with G20 now in play this points towards moving forward on having many more of these custodians in place as we roll through 2018.  This is my understanding...Someone with real finance experience may better illuminate us further.

Esprxp reacted to Alluvial in What are the dates for R3 vs Ripple @ Manhattan court ?
Even though I am interested in the lawsuit, just because of the interesting drama about what happened between the companies, what real effect will the outcome of the suit have on either Ripple the company or the price of xrp?  My opinion is none or close to none.  If R3 wins, they will get 5 billion xrps at a very cheap price, but R3 will be incredibly limited in the amount that they can sell on a daily or weekly basis - it's an amount that will have virtually no impact on the price of xrp.  Ripple will continue to sell its software, and they will own around 56 billion xrps instead of 61 billion.  I think Ripple will be able to handle it.  For those on this forum who are interested primarily in the price of xrp, I say don't worry about it.  (But then again, when do markets - especially crypto markets - act rationally?)
IMO, there is an actual benefit of this result which is that Ripple is divested of more of its xrps - one of the few valid complaints about the digital asset is that one company owns a significant majority of all xrps.  When the public sees that Ripple owns less than a majority of the digital asset, then this complaint about xrp is greatly diminished IMO.
(Of course, I am rooting for whatever result is fair:  if R3 breached the contract then its option becomes rightfully invalid.)
